Took my '21 Overland diesel in to dealer because after adding about 1 gallon of DEF, the gauge has always read full, even after 3000 miles. The dealer tells me the sensor is bad and stuck on full and the whole tank has to be replaced at a cost of about $2500.00. Thank Goodness its still under warranty. They also tell me that could be the reason my ESS has quit working!! Go Figure. The ESS stopped working a year ago and the DEF tank, just the last 3 months.

Did you ever let the def level go to empty? I work with heavy equipment, we try to tell bone head operators to never let them go dry, def has a tendency to dry up and crystalize over everything, even in the tank. Good rule of thumb is to keep the tank at least half full.

That's what I do. Half tank. Fill it up.

I never let it get below half.

The main part I don't understand is, why does the DEF tank have anything to do with the ESS not working?

Isn't that like a dream come true? The truck always thinks it's full and you never have to put anything in. Did you have any codes/check engine light?
I was thinking the same thing, plus ess not working that’s killing two birds with one stone!

Haha, indeed! With that kind of luck I'd check your oil too and see if some unheard of soot contaminate sensor was faulty too which coincidentally resulted in clean oil. You'd then have the universe's best EcoD Gladiator.

Dibs on that faulty sensor if you decide to sell it!

Don’t forget about the egr just randomly not working, that would be another nice bonus

No codes or check engine light. Some things just don't make sense. This is the only thing I have experienced with this truck, it has been flawless!

Next thing you know...........they will say the button that locks and unlocks the truck on the door handles is what caused the ESS and DEF tank to quit working!! LOL

Hell it was def deleted at the factory. If it never knew it needed it. Does that mean it would never get to the point of actually needing to be added? Would it even care? If there were no codes. Love to duplicate it.
