The big bearings. We fitted by hand. Drop the rotor or shaft into place. Put a super thin strip of hi spot blueing compound on top of the journal. Install bearing cap. Turn the rotor or shaft about 2 turns. Remove cap and rotor or shaft. Look at the contact area on the bearing. If you got about 90% or more contact. You were good. Less than that. You scrapped the hi spots. Which were smeared bluing compound.There are bearing scrapers for that.
The contact area was a straight strip on the bottom of the bearing. Sometimes it ran up the side, or ran sideways across the bearing. We had to correct it.
