Are the cam profiles the same on all PUG engines?
Probably, but since we get parts by VIN, we just hand over the repair order to the catalog department (formerly known as the parts department) and add another backorder to the ones already in the system. I know some guys who have swapped cams around out of different PUGs with no problem, so there is an excellent chance that the grinds are the same.

I thought it was pentastar upgrade. Internet says the same. Maybe a CDJR guru will have the real reason.

Didn't know that!
My first boss as a mechanic was a huge fan of Chrysler products. The shop was former AMC, but he sure talked up Chrysler/Plymouth stuff. And of course - the Plymouth troubleshooting contest in 75 took me deep into the dark side LOL

Upgrade from what? The 3.8?
From the prior 3.6 - changed a lot of stuff - oil pump, VVL, increased the range in the variable valve timing by several degrees, different bearings and journal sizes, among other changes.

Well, with the fact that cams are being ordered and back logged at rates never seen before upwards of 12,000 and that there is no way that all thise cams are going into gladiators alone. As the probability of all those being bad all out of the same model would definantly point directly at the problem.
I amd going to use a logical analysis and say I am 99% sure they are all the same with the ability of this engine to change its timing and fuel ratios I believe the 285hp to 305hp, that measly 20HP could be attained through many means also exhaust cold air intake etc... But I believe yes and that the computer makes the difference. .. but hey if I am wrong I left that 1% just incase 😂😂

I had a good friend that was a former AMC guy. He was older and couldn't do and thing difficult. I was youngthen , so he asked me to put a new clutch in his Renalt Alliance. It was an AMC/ Chrysler product if I remember. First for me back in 1988.

I am a former LEO but wrenched on things my whole life . My sergeant had a 94 or 95 Jeep with a 4.0 in it .. He was in a bind so I had him schedule me off on same day as him and I replaced the water pump in the driveway with a few odds and end tools and Charged him 20 bucks for gas 😂

Logical reasoning there about the cams interchangeability. But, as of last Wednesday, the backorder was 27,000, according to one of the other techs in our shop. He is still waiting on a cam that he ordered back in December or January. I am of the opinion that instead of releasing cams into the parts system, they are all being used for new production engines. But this causing a backorder only makes sense if there has been a severe cut in camshaft production, because up until recently there was no wait for cams. If we didn't have the one we needed, we would get it within a day or two.

I am started to believe this might be a case of planned obsolescence.

How many people will buy another vehicle?
How many will buy the same brand as brand loyalist ??

I don't think planned obsolescence is the goal here. I believe that it is mostly the relationship of Stellantis with it's vendors here. Also, the 3.6 is still used in trucks, SUVs, and Jeeps, with no viable replacement in sight. Even the Ramcharger will use the 3.6 to power it's range extender.

As for loyalty of and to customers, the management of Stellantis for a while didn't consider the American customer as being in a different environment, with different needs from the European customers. I don't know if the current management can do anything better at this point, but time will tell.
