So after the 2nd dealer worked on the Mysterious "ESS Warning Light' and only having it back for one day....the same warning light is back on!
2 months ago, 1st dealer diagnosis it as a faulty driver door switch, couple days in while waiting for part, they install....nope, that's not the fix. They tell me they'll need it for a week or two as they think it might need a total rewiring job! Ummm, not sure about that idea!!!
So I take it to dealer #2, they have it for 2 weeks while diagnosing it themselves, decide it's a faulty BCM module, order and install....picked it up Friday, and yesterday it comes back on......

Not sure if anyone else has had this come up, but not sure what next steps are in order....

Thoughts?

Still love our JT!!!!

P.S. - @JeepCares any ideas?

I wonder if they've done something as easy as check the switch under the hood? That's one way to "disable" the ESS on purpose for those that don't like it or don't want to spend the money on the module to disable it. Sometimes they miss things that are right in front of them since the are "technicians" and not really what I would call "mechanics" (by my definition someone who doesn't have to run to a PDF file on his computer to diagnose most basic car problems). Here's a video that shows the switch under the hood, might be worth a look.

Thanks...I'll check it out.
Its gotta be one of the items it is looking for to turn it on. Wheel sensor, accelerator position sensor, maybe even the button on the dash is faulty? or something silly, ya know?
Complete rewire? To hell with that. I wouldn't let them do it and I'd figure it out myself first. You can't be the first or only person to have had the issue.

My light came on due to my trailer brake controller. It would also kick on my sway control light. Both would come on rarely after a braking action. Then, stay on all the time when I have my trailer plugged in. Currently, I unplugged the controller until spring and unplugged, the lights haven't come on yet. I spoke to a guy at the RV shop, and he thinks it may be a programming issue with the on-board systems. So... maybe there is a flash system update in our futures.

In my opinion, 90% of the problem in resolving this kind of issue is the warranty reimbursement system between the dealership and FCA. The dealerships are not incentivized by FCA through both process and reimbursement to solve problems like this the first time around and it becomes a poke and stab with a back and forth between you, the dealership and FCA.

I have a feeling if this was a out of warranty on your dime troubleshoot and fix, they would drill down to the problem and fix it quicker.

Wow, if that's how your dealership rolls, I would look for a new one.
As the spouse of a Jeep Service Manager, I can assure you their goal here is customer
satisfaction, not how to screw them.

I agree, dash switch, or the little battery and/or connections for it.

I had a 16 JKUHR that spent over 200 days in the repair shop for an electrical gremlin. They practically ripped that JK apart stem to stern including replacing both front and rear electrical harnesses which is a major, major job. Still no joy same shit kept happening. Traded it in for a JTR and never will look back.

FWIW A friend of mine in Ohio has a friend who owns a jeep dealership and confided to him that for the JK's it happens in about 1 out of 3000 and is the cause of most buy backs. I would be looking at a buy back if this was me and it isn't resolved quickly.

So over the weekend I had the ESS light pop up on my JTR. The evening before I had cleaned the engine compartment and added bug juice (weekly, if not more, ritual in northern Ohio). When I closed and latched the hood I failed to completely latch the driver side. The hood was "bouncing" a little while I drove down the road, which reminded me of my CJ hood LOL. I pulled off the road, shut the vehicle off, got out and latched the hood. Started back up and the ESS light was gone. So from what I know and have read about, there are quite a few areas that could cause this light to come on. Hood switches being another. I'd guess if one (1) of the plungers were faulty or damaged, it'd result in the same thing.
