I bought 3 pieces of 18 inch long 2 1/2 inch Id stainless steel exhaust pipes and mig welded them together after clamping them together. I did this just to test for sound and affect straight pipe would have on gas mileage before I spent the money on a brand name exhaust.
Mig welding stainless, I have a flux-core stainless wire that also uses the argon/CO2 mix, it's double shielded. What did you use to mig stainless? Do you have a spool gun? Did you use the double shielded or something else? I have a small stainless steel project and was wondering about other methods.

I used a set up at my work and off the top of my head I don’t remember exactly what it was but I can find out and get back to you.

Mine can average 23 if kept around 50mph on strait country back roads.
On the beach, <8 mpg
On the highway at 80, 15 mpg

Unless you are making the EXACT SAME trip, with multiple fill ups, at a VERY constant speed, reporting gas mileage is at best, a crappy estimate.

I'm more confused by this than the mileage claim. What does the exhaust have to do with cold air into the engine?

My Gladiator progressively got better fuel economy as the mileage went up, and then stabilized after around 10k miles.

Proof to me is a timed run on a specific loop at a specific speed at a specific temperature in similar traffic.

I've played around with this in the past and have found that doing stuff late at night is best because it removes the traffic variable.

Also. As an old fart who has owned everything from a 140 HP Montero (olde schoole) , a couple of pickup trucks, a 400 hp STi, a Miata and an RX7, my personal preference is that my non-sporty vehicles be quiet and unobtrusive.

rattles and pops on overrun are great fun on an STi. But just annoying on a 280 hp, 5000 lb truck.

The first 10 seconds are the best sound. Sorry was unable to shorten the video.
Mine sounded great at idle and low RPM in the parking lot, where it got ugly was 4th, 5th, and 6th gear on the highway around 1800 RPM. It was so loud, the stereo couldn't overpower it, and the tone was like I was sitting in an aluminum can attached to an exhaust.

No load, they all sound good!

Took out the first resonator and the huge muffler. Left the last resonator. Added a J pipe to cancel drone at around 2000 rpm. Love the sound.
Any pics of your setup from underneath?

Cut just in front of first resonator and behind suitcase muffler. Added straight pipe. Then added resonator to dampen 2000 rpm drone. Still running this way and still like it.
