Received my Falcon shocks (4) and noticed the instructions say 100 ft-lb torque for the rear shocks (top & bottom).

Is 100 ft-lb right? Seems high.

I sent an email to Falcon as well.

Stock torque spec seems to be 89 ft-lbs, both top and bottom. I don't think I'd sweat the difference personally

Thanks fourfa, I think you are right about not sweating the difference.

Falcon just got back to me, they said 100 ft-lb is right....

I would not sweat it either. Looked up standard torque tables for a M14 x 1.5 Class 10.9 bolt and it could go as high as 143 ft-lbs.

That's what kills me, there are standard charts for bolt/nut grades and sizes, yet manufacturers are all over the place under the limit.

In industrial construction, we are usually required to torque to the limit and walk away.

I work in aircraft manufacturing and it is the same way though. Standard torque tables are only used when there is a absence of manufacturing engineering recommended torque (which is rare).

I am sure Jeep (Stellantis) engineering has a process standard document that sets torque values for each system whether it is suspension, drivetrain or body that has reasoning for following different values that vary from standard torque table values.

I think the factory hole would strip out if you tried to torque to the limit. I’ve done it before quite easily on other jeep parts where the nut is just tack welded to the frame/structure. Somewhere between 90-100 would suffice. All else fails, just tighten it as hard as you loosened the old ones.

I bought some Fox 2.0's a while back and found the bushings to not be as wide as the red OEM shocks I took off. It required a good bit of torque to warp the brackets before it even started to create a clamping load. If the Falcons are the same, that could account for the higher torque spec. (I later bought some fender washers from Grainger and installed them as spacers. I hope they work long-term.)
