Hopefully the return trip can be a bit more leisurely. Safe travels.

I think you could have reset and rolled but I’m curious what Jeep says

Closest dealer to Oceanside is AutoNation Jeep in Carlsbad...they just bought it - it used to be called Bob Baker. I was just there last week to pick up some parts and the service center was a cluster ?. I've always gone to their truck service center in Oceanside to get things done as it's a bit more chill but not sure if that's possible any longer with it being sold to AutoNation. Might want to check out that option.

Good luck!

Get JScan and the cable. You can clear all the codes except the permanent one which will after the likely high soot code your Jeep threw. I cleared all the codes, did a regen while driving and all went away. Mine did it Friday from denver to lake mac. JScan will show you the soot concentration along with a million other related metrics to help understand what it’s doing. Also can watch egt’s which is alway a good idea cuz they do run hot and go high easy without the water or oil temps reflecting it.

Exactly what I plan to do. I’m ordering the cables tonight.

Looks like we crossed paths in Colorado. Lake Mac was a great stop.

How is the trip going? Any more issues with your Jeep?
I limped it all the way to San Diego, actually Oceanside, and made it to my buddy’s place. It’s still limping along, but otherwise not giving me any issues.

I managed to get my buddy into the Jeep today. He took my for a driving tour of Camp Pendleton, and then we cruised “The Strand” and drove down to Del Ray for seafood. I can tell he was pushing it, but he was grinning all the way. Exactly what I came here to do.

I’m ordering the cables and setting up Jscan to clear the codes, and then I’m going to put together some plan to get him up into some great trail for an overnight camp.

Also I should have recommended everyone buying diagnostic tools because dealers in general can’t get anyone in regardless of your vehicle being inoperable or no for a month or more. Painful and frustrating when your Jeep is stuck in limp mode. I fully expect right to repair laws to continue to pass nationwide as this service issue gets worse. My dealer has been good with giving me service parameter info to help with issues I’ve had in exchange for not being able to get me in basically ever.
I have an injector swap I need to do soon and haven’t confirmed, but I believe JScan will allow me to program the calibrations codes required per injector so they work correctly.

People can also look at Independent repair shops to do work, and pay the cost upfront, the catch is you as the JEEP owner then needs to fight with Mother Jeep to pay you back for warranty work. There is a process for getting Jeep to pay for warranty work when outside of the Dealer sphere, it is discussed in the Owners manual.

Jscan license purchased, cable and Bluetooth module delivered. Codes are all clear and truck is running strong again. I was even able to lower the TPMS target pressure and up the tire size — two things my hometown dealer kept not getting done. Just a few dozen miles, but so far, so good.

Lesson learned: Don’t count on the network of Jeep dealers to be your emergency support as you travel. Take what you need yo get yourself out of the most common issues. And something to read and clear codes and “un limp” is definitely something you need.

Is your buddy getting to enjoy time with you? Fingers crossed.

Beach cruise. Padres game and Midway visit. On our way to Vegas now!

Next week, we’re hitting Anzo Borrego and Joshua Tree. I figure I’ll never be safer in some remote sites than with some extra diesel and an old combat corpsman.

I would still like to know what caused the codes to set. Too many of us have experienced the exact same thing. I would like to see problem corrected. Moving forward we diesel owners are most likely going to be our own support group being how Jeep has dropped the engine and 99% of dealers are zero help.
