Have a safe trip. I’m betting that you won’t see any issues especially since it’s cooler now. I towed a 4K camper to Moab in July when ambient temps were mid to upper 90’s without any issues. Oil temps were close on the grades to derating but it never did.

I made it down, mixed reviews going up Spanish fork canyon I had to slow down to 50 oil temps hit 247 and at 60mph it was hunting for gears bad what was almost worse was on flat ground at 60-65mph oil temps were 244 other than that it towed wonderfully and I averaged 15 mpg

Interesting. Just out of curiosity how many miles are on your truck at the moment and what if any mods have you done to it?

What’s incredible to me is that towing 3800lbs, you averaged 15mpg in a truck shaped like a brick that you then lifted and threw huge tires on.

If that is a 4" lift on 38s with no regearing.....you did darn good. I know it is an eco diesel....but you still need to keep the gear ratios in line with tire size to ensure the engine and trans are running within the normal ranges they were designed to.

I have a ecod with 33s and won't run 38s without a regear. Because of the problems the op posted. You are just making the thing work harder than it needs and beating up the transmission. If you can afford 38s you can afford a regear.
