Is anyone here flat towing by connecting the system to D rings that are bloted directly to the frame ends. I really don't like the blue ox base plate design with the side plates and the bar under the bumper. Are the frame end plates that the D ring bolts to strong enough to flat tow from.

This is what I am wanting to do. Use these connectors to connect the blue ox directly to a standard 1" thick D ring. If you aready have a strong connection point, why buy an overpriced base plate that is under the bumper and exposed for damage while offroading.

while it might work, personally i would only do it with a bumper that is rated for it. with all the lawsuits lately, i spent the little extra to get the new bumper.

Not sure that I'd trust a Chinese product that probably hasn't been tested for failure and probably doesn't have DOT approval with my JT.

The LoD bumpers are rated to tow with.

I flat tow off a Rock Hard 4x4 Patriot Series front bumper w/ LOD frame tie brackets. The whole setup is tow rated, so I'm pulling my heavy build with something that at least resembles a "supported" setup, if I ever need to explain it to a judge or insurance company.

A few thoughts as you go through this. The vast majority of the bumpers that have welded points will tell you not to tow with those points.

Please don't trust some unknown Chinese company with your life (or life of others). I'm sure you can find somebody in the US that stands behind their product and you can trust the engineering & welding.

I am actually trying to find D rings that mount independent of the bumper that bolt directly to the end plate of the frame, that way the bumper is basically a non issue. Blue Ox makes the attachment the connects their system to the D ring, but i am sure it's made in China.

I am actually wanting D rings that bolt to the face plate of the frame so the bumper is removed from the equation for strength.

Get the Curt or Roadmaster ones from etrailer as they have a DOT rating. And then as long as your bumper has 1in tabs and a 12k winch/pull rating it should be good. If you're not running an LOD bumper with a tow rating. I recommend an OH SHIT chain or cable, just in case a tab lets go.
