FOX shock replacement resolution form dealer is Bilstein shocks (for me)

So, i had 1 fox shock fail back in January (won't bore you with another rant about it.) the dealer has now offered to keep the jeep and send the single shock back to Fox for repair or i can have them replace all 4 with teh Bilstein shocks. This resolution came from the dealer collaborating with Chrysler (so i've been told.) I chose for the complete replacement of all 4. If these end up being the Lift Kit shocks will there be an issue using them on stock height Jeep? I just do not want them to cause any issue or become damaged and need to be replaced again.

I honestly do not care what brand as long as they are what belongs there. Fox has left a sour taste and didn't last as long as you would have expected. But either way i just want 4 good shocks to keep in in good condition. Just looking for a collaboration of opinions or hate mail HAHAHA

can't comment on if they are the correct Bilstein shocks without a part number.

I would imagine that they will get the correct size on there. Bilstein shocks are good. They are probably what is going to be on the '24 Rubicons.

The dealership should be able to tell you exactly what they are ordering and if either aftermarket or MOPAR branded Bilstein, they should know what the part number is. If me, I would be pressing them hard on that info now rather than just wait to see what shows up and then possibly be surprised that they are for a lifted application instead.

Are you referring to the Fox shocks on a Rubicon or the Fox shocks with reservoirs on the Mojave? Rubi shocks, I’d say go for the bilsteins. Mojave shocks and that’s a big downgrade.

I’ve used bilstein 5150s on my JK for years and found them to be great shocks.

The bilsteins are not a replacement shock for Rubicon or Mojave factory shocks. They can be a replacment for the mopar lift shocks are heights and travel would be identical. If you have a bad rubicon shock and they are no longer available, you should get the red bodied (unbranded) ahocks that come stock on rubicons now. If you have a mojave, you should get the stock mojave shocks. Anything else is being done inncorect. Having the shock repairs by Fox is not warranty work, replacing it with the same or update design is.

Lots of great advise.

What the shock is doing : when it compresses it makes a pressure release sound. SImilar sounding to a wastegate on a turbo but not as dramatic. Or like the air shock on my mountain bike. It started to only be teh first couple of compressions, I am assuming once it builds a little pressure it would equalize or something. Now its all the time pretty much. Even on extensions. Now every little road bump up and down it makes a little fittering pressure release. Its annoying AF!

Below is my solution for the bouncy, weak, shocks the dealership said were fine because they felt ok when they pushed and pulled on them. I guess they don't get how shocks work and you should not have multiple oscillations after a bounce/drop/dip. Been in the business too long - I know when a shock isn't doing the job.

They said - if they aren't leaking and if they push and pull the same, they are ok (heck - are their arms calibrated for the valving for each shock?)
Coming out of my garage, the front drops off the edge - down, up, stop.
The rear drops to the approach - 2 bounces before it settled.

I don't like "bouncy" when towing so swapped these in before the trip with car in tow. With the weight of the trailer these rears really shined. I think they do a great job handing the weight of a trailer tongue and prevent that pivoting bounce back there.

They replaced the fronts because - DUH - they were literally dripping oil.
Oddly, the fronts still dampened fine, no bounce up front, but it was a matter of time before the travel exceeded the amount of oil left and they sucked air.

I was told these part numbers came from Mopar performance. Since i had an open complaint through the Wave program Mopar are the ones handling the recommendations and part numbers. The parts manager did verify these are the shock now coming on 2024 model rubicons. He also said the number is for a pair AB are front and AA are rear.

But they are on strike and they say it will be a while before I actually get them from the warehouse.

I think you'd better get some clarity on this - check with Benny on those numbers. Looking here, they are both for rear.

When i spoke to the service manager this morning he said he has ordered both front and rear and emailed my case manager the part numbers, and these were the parts Mopar gave to teh service manager.

I just got off the phone with im again. He did a VIN number lookup and the parts catalog he has says Originals are no longer available and to order the part numbers i posted.

OE just mean Original Equipment. So, that part makes sense to me. The parts manager did say these part numbers came directly from Mopar performance, his parts catalog showed as front and rear based on my vin number.
