I’d rock one of the old school Power Wagons in a heartbeat. The newer ones are take it or leave it for me. I know they have a pretty good following but to me it’s just another trim level they tack on for more cash.
The 3rd Gen came with electric lockers. The rear diff also had a gear driven LSD. 4.56 gears. The rear axle was a 10.5 AAM with the axle shafts from the 11.5 AAM. Had a factory 2" lift with softer springs. Smartbar sway bar just like the Rubicon. Warn M1200 winch. The winch was really a M1500 when you needed to replace parts. The Power Wagon option was another $6200 over a standard SLT package. It came with the 5.7 Hemi. The reason for no diesel. Too much weight on the front axle for off roading, plus the winch and intercooler would be in the same location. 2008 was the last year for the 5 speed manual and the regular cab with the 8ft bed. Had a 140" wheelbase.

4 Gen was a body change, wheelbase went to 149". The 4.5 Gen changed the front suspension from a 5 link to a 3 link. The rear went from leaf springs to a 5 link like what's on the JT. The engine went from the 5.7 to the 6.4 Hemi. Gears are now 4.10's. The rear diff changed from the 10.5 AAM to the bigger 11.5 AAM. 5th Gen was another body change.

Now you can get the Power Wagon letterings on any 2500. Which every real PW owner hates.

In Michigan, the 6 extra inches of width would make the Power Wagon dicy in the woods. On forest roads, there wouldn't be a problem.

Let's aspire for better drivetrains for the existing "right sized" existing Gladiator and dispense with this 1950's Power Wagon cosplay ($100K+) wet dream.

I would like the previous mentioned affordable V8 and maybe 2-3” more rear seat leg room, increased payload would also be nice

Go ahead with the V8 swap, but that's not the majority. For the extra rear legroom, move the front seats forward. We have more rear seat room than the Wrangler.

I am happy with the car as it is.

What I would like to see is
- revive the Diesel
- introduce a V8 for a reasonable price
- increase the payload to 1 metric ton
I have to disagree on the payload , even big F250's 4000 payload is stretching it to the max and the suspension is much beefier and frame bigger etc.. if the payload was increased that much it would cause a whole new frame and suspension system to go under these and they would ride like a Horse drawn steel wheeled tater Wagon. Besides that the 4000 pound payload on the Ford is with a 7.3L Gas motor . I dont want a big truck or a big payload . Had 2 .. Just not used as much as ine imagines you will for about 90% of folks.

Would you buy one?
Absolutely. It would be nice to have a full-size Gladiator. I'm not even picky. I would take one in a 1/2-ton, 3/4 ton, or 1 ton. Heck, I'd even buy a dually.

On the PW forum. There are guys from Michigan running the trails there. They're not worried about pin stripping.

How much bigger we need to get? Remember the "HUGE" Ford Excursion and all the attention it got just for the sheer size of it when it came out? It was the butt of jokes on late night shows, it was a political topic, it was all the talk of vehicle publications....just for the size. I parked next to one last week and it was pretty much the same size as the Gladiator.

Excursions were AWESOME!! I had the V10 version for a while. Wouldnt get another one unless it’s the diesel version though. For road trips it couldn’t be beat.

I'd have some super sore legs. I need more front legroom. I dont allow anyone in my Gladiator so I aint worried about the rear . My wife isnt even allowed to drive it 😂

Lol, well when y0u can set up a full sized bed in the back ans still carry a herd in there thats always awesome. Man oh Man did they drink the fuel. Diesel would be the most economical approach.

And true to form, the ones commenting as such on it then didn't understand its purpose so they mocked it.

The Excursion is a phenomenal vehicle with a very clear purpose: heavy duty hauling. A similarly capable SUV is non-existent in the current market and clean versions sell for a boatload more than you'd think.

My sis and brother in law could tow their bumper pull camper, all 4 kids and the dog with their ex VFD command unit Powerstroke Excursion easily. When they sold it they got nearly twice what they paid for it after adding 50k miles to the clock. Show me another 25 year old truck that can do that. Now to do the same they haul the kids and dog in the Yukon and the trailer with their Sierra HD.
