In my opinion, making the Gladiator wider, as you suggest, is simply putting it in the full-size class. In other words, I'm not sure how you think making the Gladiator wider is right between the current Gladiator and a full size when both are already a similar length.
A minivan is similar length to a full size SUV, but they aren't the same class. You can get a Tacoma that is just as long as a Ram 1500, but they aren't the same class.
So let's leave the length out of it for now. The Gladiator is 73ish wide, the 1500 is 83ish wide. So we split the difference and made a 78ish wide pickup. Bam, right in the middle, not really full-size, not really midsize. Maybe just fun size, maybe not.
Again, I kinda think it's a worthless class. Except maybe a little more shoulder room, could have a better arm rest. Maybe slightly thicker doors to be a little less road noise.

Its just semantics and really don't matter. Although, like I said above...if they used the same running gear as the Gladiator and just slapped a new, slightly wider body on it. It would save time and money.
But that would probably make too much sense.

The Ford Maverick has about 1.5ā€ more front shoulder room than a Gladiator.
Ford was very smart when they designed the Maverick. They were able to give the Maverick a lot of interior room despite the Ranger and Gladiator being wider.

I see what you're saying, I just think we have already moved the Jeep Wrangler (and the current Gladiator) too far to the full-size segments. The Jeep TJ was considered the most capable Wrangler from the factory. But Jeep decided to prioritize more interior space and expanded the width from 66.7" inches to a whopping 73.9" inches! Every time we go wider, we're losing what made Jeep a Jeep!

I would agree, as far as doing JEEP things go, the current Jeep is getting big. I think the LJ was about as close to perfect sized as Jeep made. At least as far as using it as a JEEP.
I'm sure it's a regional thing, but I'd guess the JLR/JLUR is more capable than a TJR/LJR. Unless you're talking strictly tight, narrow trails.
That being said, our JLURD and JTRD are just about the perfect compromise between utilitarianism and luxury, for the way we use them the majority of the time. For instance, we drove 3+ hours for a weekend getaway. Really wouldn't of wanted.to have done that in our son's 99 TJ Sahara.

The LJR is a perfect Jeep FOR OFF-ROADING. When it came to camping or this whole ā€œoverlandingā€ thing is where things got dicey. I deleted the rear seats in mine (gave them to a buddy with a CJ and they fit perfect in the rear) and installed the tuffy security trunk. It was great for storing the amount of gear you’d need for an off-road run but it didn’t have the room for camping more than a 2 day type thing. And then it was loaded down like crazy. I really appreciate the JT for this purpose. It’s nothing to load the camping gear and off-road gear in the bed and still be comfortable in the cab. For me and my use case, JT is absolutely perfect.

Exactly my thoughts also. Try it in a CJ5, did that for sometime. Usually pulled a small trailer behind it, when it wasn't just me.
If I was offroading regularly, like Moab stuff, I'd love an LJR on 35s or maybe even 37s. Highline the fenders with the least amount of lift possible.
But I don't do that, been to Moab twice and barely got the Jeep out while there. I mostly cruise forest service roads and play in the snow from time to time.
I've had a Jeep of sorts for 30 years or so. Just like them and probably always will have one of some kind.

Yes it is wide enough. Anymore and you might as well, go buy a junky Ford truck.

Yep. Mine had 3ā€ Savvy springs made by Currie and a 1ā€ body lift for the belly up on 35ā€ tires. After I figured out how to use everything it went anywhere any of the bigger rigs could go. Had enough armor to be called a tank too so wasn’t worried about it bouncing off of rocks. It was fairly heavy though. I weighed it once and don’t remember what the number was but I do remember that it made my eyes go a bit wide. Upwards of 5k is what I remember and I wasn’t that big back then.

I don't know how they did it because the Maverick shares the same platform with the Bronco Sport, which is surprisingly roomy inside and with the outgoing Escape which is decidedly not.

That said, I saw a Ram Rampage in Costa Rica in March. It dwarfed our rental 4 door Jimny but in turn was tiny next to a Land Cruiser 250.

I've said it before and i'l say it again: Stellysler needs to do a USDM Rampage and go after some of the Maverick's market share. A FS 715 or J100 variant would be cool and very much a niche like the JT but a Rampage would be a broader market game changer.

When I was looking for a smaller truck, I compared quite a few measurements. While the JT feels way smaller than our F150, the measurements were a little closer than I thought. Really like the JT and have no intention of replacing it, however. No boring trucks! [For comparison, I added our 2015 RX350 and the C7 Vette which the JT replaced.] [Numbers are Length and Width without mirrors.]

The JT is a perfect size for what it is………
If you make it into a fullsize and still want the doors & hardtop to come off… do you realize the amount of re-engineering would need to be done to accomplish that?
And…have the same towing capacity as all the other fullsize trucks?
It’d cost a fortune!!!

If you NEED a fullsize truck to do ā€˜fullsize truck things’….. get a fullsize truck.
