M/T vs. A/T tires vs. All-Seasons? Each model has the ability to be shipped from the factory with some variation of those. Air pressure would have an impact as well.

Those with horrible fuel economy should post up their specs to see if those with better are the same or different.

There is ZERO reason a Max Tow would get better MPGs than a Rubicon if both had the same wheels and tires, save for the aero pieces on the Sport that do deflect air really well at highway speed. So the differences should be minimal.

Mine got 19 stock, 17 on 285/70 KO2 tires, and 15-16 on 35" mud tires. Anybody claiming to get 20+ out of a Max Tow is either on stock tires or doesn't know how to do math. I drove mine like an old man and still never got close to those numbers.

Also, the ESS system is good for 1 MPG combined according to my Fuelly chart. The ESS system on my JLU died for 4-5 weeks and my mileage trendline took a dive. As soon as the dealer figured it out and fixed it, I instantly got the mileage back again. The dip in the line was clearly seen on Fuelly over time.

On Jeeps, gas mileage is all about tires. And the Falken tires, while amazing, are very heavy and kill efficiency.
Right now with about 700 miles on the truck that's about where I am at in the 17-18 mpg range now that I have put on the Rubi Take off's. I was getting about 20 briefly with the stock tires till I switched. I know they are heavier but I got them at such a damned good price couldn't help it and once I burn through them will look at some different tires. I have the ASS turned off its to much of a pain in the butt with a lot of start and stop and when its 115 outside and it shuts down also shutting down the A/C to hell with that. I can always crank it back up in the winter.

An old man once told me, “There are two things in life that all men lie about, the number of women they’ve been with and their mpg.”

It's 500 lbs. heavier, longer, has deeper standard axle gearing and less slippery in the wind. Yes, you're going to see reduced mileage.

Tonneau can hurt actually because you're removing the negative pressure area in the bed. Myth Busters I think did some episodes on that topic.

If you want to pick up a little MPG, remove those heavy Falken tires and switch to something P-rated and more lightweight. It'll shock you how much you'll pick up.
I have the factory tonneau on a JT Rubicon and get 12-14 mpg. Probably not worth it for gas but it is nice for covering the bed.

I'm getting a steady 16.4 - 16.7mpg with my manual sport with 35s on Moto metal rims , iron cross step bars and soft cover.

Reporting back at 9300 miles and I'm getting 18.4 MPGs average right now on 315 70 17 BFG KO2 tires, 2.5" of lift, Badland Apex 12000lb winch installed and rugged ridge spartan full width bumper. This is where I'm at mostly between 18.4-18.7 MPGs mix of 60% city driving and 40% interstate roughly.

There is no way that there should be this much variance in fuel economy in the same model year/engine truck. it makes no sense!

So I have found that getting up to speed more quickly rather than taking it easy up speed keeps the gas mileage in check better. I took a 1hr round trip pretty much all interstate, I-85 and I-77 to pick up a Rubicon suspension on Thursday evening. Speeds between 65-75 mph and getting on it to get up to 70 getting on the interstate. Started at 18 mpg Thursday morning and now this morning after driving to work and back yesterday and to two of the buildings I have contracts on I'm sitting at 19mpg, had it to 19.2 on Thursday after the trip. My trip to work is 75% city driving, 20 minute trip, 5 of it spent on I-85 going two exits down. Been getting on it up to speed between red lights and it just seems to do better driving it this way. I also have been keeping the ESS on as well.

After this mornings trip, sitting idle probably 10-15 minutes at two different buildings

I'll also mention that self calculating the miles I have found the computer to be pretty spot on and I have not reset the computer since I have had 400 miles on, just after I installed the lift.

Towing my camper this past weekend I got an average of 12 mpg. That's down from 16 mpg without towing. Interesting that the drop wasnt that much although a normal of 16 mpg is already very low.

I have a Sport S no max trailer tow, in the Fl panhandle I average 18-19. Pull my center console 3500 lbs and in down to 16. Motor cycle trailer knocks it down to 13. With the m/c trailer wind drag is the cause. The 17 Grand Cherokee got better numbers empty (21) and worse towing (12).

I’ve posted in the other mileage threads, but hadn’t seen anyone talking about doors / tops off configuration in here. As that seems to change my mpg’s the most.

I have an Overland, premium soft top with rubicon takeoff wheels & tires with Bak tonneau cover. Otherwise it’s pretty stock. I took a road trip and was able to get 19.5 almost 20 but it was in a lot of hills. That had doors on / top on and occasionally open pulled back.

I do a lot of highway driving and post covid where I live people have been driving faster at over 70 my mpg drops and over 75 it’s done for. I pretty much have had doors off with top in open position for all summer and I’m averaging 16.5ish with that setup. I turn the ess off sometimes as when the AC turns off in this latest heat I melt a bit.
