Gladiator gas octane?

I know the manual calls for min 87 gas. However if one upped to for example 89 is there any added benefits such as engine longevity, economy, performance or something else? Or is all it does is make ones wallet lighter?

there could be a situation when under heavy load in midst of summer you could experience engine knock. In this case you would benefit from mid-grade gas.

That's some expensive motion lotion. Since it's ethanol free, I'm thinking that fuel would have just a tiny bit more energy per drop than the typical 10% ethanol stuff. I'm also thinking the difference would not be noticeable.

But yeah, do let us know.

As for the 93 octane, no. That won't make any difference. Higher octane doesn't mean higher energy, higher power or higher heat. It just means it's LESS volatile than the lower octane gas so it's less likely to ping under high heat/high compression situations. If the engine isn't pinging on regular, higher octane will do nothing.

And the first about 1/3 gallon is whatever the last person pumped, at the more expensive price.

In El Paso our options are 86 low grade and then 88 for mid grade so it's been mid grade for me.

I use 89 no E. The ethanol stuff is crap regardless of what the manual says about it being ok.

I ran ethanol in my Silverado sometimes during summer. It gives more horsepower, and is cheaper, but mileage sucks, so the low price doesn't matter much. My exhaust smelled like popcorn, so that was kinda neat.

Only reason to run premium is if you have a personal vendetta against ethanol and you're in an area that doesn't put ethanol in premium.

I seemed to get a mile or two better mpg, but not enough to justify the price. I tried it as I heard some clacking (valves I assume), still heard it at certain speeds/ grade so went back to the cheap stuff.
