The only thing good about this is that there’s the chance the refreshed Ranger and Colorado will keep Jeep prices in check or dare I say reduce them. I know Jeep has said they are catering to a small group and therefore are accepting lower volumes and are a lifestyle vehicle so we’ll see.

For the price of the Gladiator I’m really struggling to justify the cost versus what I can get for a full size: space and a V8

Same thing happened after we bought an FJ Cruiser. Now it is worth more than we paid for it 11 years ago…..sometimes things like this turn out good :) My garage has my 2011 FJ and 2022 JT…..life is perfect….
I can see that. Wish I still had my 70 Javelin I sold to finance this JT........... looks like that thing would be worth another 5 grand above what I sold it for (I got top dollar because people knew ME and knew of the car.......... the owner/seller can have an impact on the value as I found out. I got more for mine, had some people going "wow" and others said "not surprised, it was your car and everyone knew the story behind it".

I recently saw an article on a 71 Jeepster Hurst Commando - and dangit, now I want one but there were only 100 made back then, likely that woman owns the only one left.
The paint scheme reminds me of the SC/Rambler or the Rebel Machine, R/W/B and hood mounted tach and all.

How much is true of Gladiator buyers being mostly prev Jeep owners anyway? Any stats or demographics? How much cross-shopping happens from other truck brands?
I don’t know the numbers either, but the JT is my very first Jeep, dumped the Tacoma for it.

I like midsized trucked, hunting off roading, need the bed etc. I was building the taco to be what I wanted, but then poof Jeep delivered and got one in 2021. Have 22k miles on it and have loved every minute of it.

When you think about it hard, it doesn't make much sense.

Until I take the top and doors off
Form for and function that’s why I got the JT, I could not or want to bring a full sized truck where I bring the Jeep, I also don’t tow anything that requires a full sized truck if I did I’d have a Ram.

Reading the comments was actually better than the article haha

One commenter made a good point, though i have no idea how valid it is. They said that other brands were sacrificing options due to the chip problem and supply chain shortages, where jeep and ford(i think) are not.

Certainly an interesting perspective. Personally im wondering if they’re not just letting other brands blow their wad early while stellantis (or whoever owns jeep now) works on a redesign.
I thought the chip problem was resolved now, everything looks right in my 2022 Overland, different from the dash of my Mojave which I’m pretty sure that was due to lack of chips in ‘21

I haven’t looked at numbers, but I don’t think fhe JT is cannibalizing sales of any other Jeep types.

Total guess, but I’d bet we’ve converted more than a few GM/ford/taco owners to the dark, erm…Jeep side!

Not surprised Gladiator is not so popular, most people buy 4X4 trucks and never go off road. Completely opposite of what a Gladiator is optimized to do. Add that to the look of gladiator vs "everything else" in the 4X4 truck market and we can see why it doesn't have "mass appeal". It is most interesting to an individual who does intend to do off-roading and has (individual) taste rather then following the crowd.

I am surprised Ranger isn't doing so well now, it does look mainstream, it has some good technical stat's too.

Also about marketing, I don't think I have ever seen a Wrangler and certainly not a Gladiator commercial on TV. Chevy Colorado, yes.

What a thread, where do I start? In my opinion most people don’t care how much this truck costs, if they make more, how it compares to other vehicles or the segment it caters to. It all boils down to consumer wants and needs or just plain I’ll get it anyway. If people want it, do they really care how much Ford, Toyota or Chevy make in relation? Not a topic I discuss among groups I attend. God, Jeeps, guns and a good woman most of the time.

Cars, trucks and various platforms come and go even to be revived later on. The Gladiator uses many parts from the JL and it’s unique parts have already provided cost/return with previous sales in respect to tooling. It’s not a legacy vehicle but a segment vehicle and we and many others are that target segment. Ford build a lot of trucks in relation to other manufacturers But never convinced me to buy one. I like what I like, you like what you like. This article is like two men comparing penis size, one thinks the water is cold while the other says ”it’s deep too!”

I’m getting back to installing a new well pump today, I’ll let you know if my ass gets cold down there and the old adage is true. I’m too old and cranky in need of a Jeep top/door off day.

Not sure how selling 39k trucks which keeps it on track to break the sales target goal by nearly 10k trucks a year can be construed as the sky is falling...

Given the waaay higher transaction price and lack of fleet sales driving down average margin. jeep is probably making more profit on this truck than everyone but Tacoma.

I like how FCA every month is jacking the prices on certain options, Example:

My 2019 JLUR - body color matched fenders MY19 was $495, then last year was $695, NOW its $995? WTF.

I finally closed on my new house and getting ready to sell my old house then I was going to buy a Mojave JT. But for a couple bucks more I might as well order a new Silverado ZR2, better tech and 6.2.
Agreed. But the strange thing is that Gorilla Glass is now $195. I paid $495 in February. Go figure.

Exactly this. The Gladiator is only in a numbers race against itself. The late FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne had said before the Gladiator launch that the Gladiator was to be a "upscale" market truck. Sales goals were set for 75K units per year with the factory line having at best capacity for 100K units a year. They are beating these goals even now and correctly knew they would never be market leader in the mid-size truck segment for per units sold.

I'd say that taking up more space is not always a benefit

The Gladiator has always been a niche truck, I get it. But why are sales down, lost interest, pricing compared to other trucks, other hybrid and EV options?

I love the idea of the F150 Lightning, it's a really versatile truck, including using it as a power source.
