Rumors around that Zach@Granger Motors is voiding all extended warranties they have sold in California and Florida due to a "policy". No grandfather clause, and only "pro-rated' refunds. Called a Granger Warranty Assistant who told me "don't worry it's only California and Florida, you're fine because you're in NJ" which didn't really sit well with me because if they can drop this on two whole states with zero warning there is nothing stopping them from adding more.

I called Mopar Vehicle Protection and they told me it's not their policy and they have no idea what the dealer is talking about, but if the dealer is voiding warranties for specific states it's at their own discretion.

Anyone here with a Granger Motors extended warranty in California or Florida get an email from Granger telling them their warranty is void?

We were able to sell ESPs to CA and FL for a couple years now. Due to the high volume of ESPs from those 2 states being bought, CA and FL stopped us and is having us refund customers who had either states address in their system. This law preventing outside warranties to be bought has been in place for awhile. So both states were okay with a few warranties here and there, but it has been a big chunk of ESPs purchased from customers in those states.

This is only for CA and FL residents. No other state is affected.

Hmm... so it sounds like the dealerships in those states, rather than compete in an open market, get a law enacted that disallows businesses from outside to do business in that state.

Ought to be simple enough for someone to start a home based business in both states that sells the ESPs. Unless the ESP has to be sold at an actual dealership.

Yes happened to me in Florida, I had to cancel, but it was prorated....I didn't get my full refund back, so I lost money on that deal.

Grainger told me if i gave them an out of state address of a friend or relative they can keep the policy. Sounds like fraud to me and I'm sure if there was an issue I would be the one liable for fraud.

Dealers have a legalized protectionist rackets in most states and as the independent dealers sell off to the big corporate chains and regional chains, it's getting worse.

Dealership cartels put a lot of money into political campaigns from local to federal. If ever there was a valid reason for the FTC and DOJ to pursue anti-trust, auto dealers are it. The states have allowed the dealers to rig the system to prevent competition.

And-- Good luck buying a new car outside their system. Example: Only one indy Subaru dealer exists in the Baltimore-DC metro (Annapolis), the rest are all owned by big and medium size dealership chains. Thats 10 out of 11 dealers.

Some light reading: Tesla's battles against state cartels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_US_dealership_disputes

I would think that CA and FL sell the most amount of jeeps due to the nice year round weather. So its no surprise that there would also be more ESPs sold in those states. More ESPs = More warranty claims. Anyone with half a brain could have anticipated this.

Sounded sketchy to me to, but I went ahead and used a friends address out of state. I don't foresee it being a concern.

For those in CA, FL and KY call Mopar Max Care 800-521-9922. I’m in CA and just got one. You can’t do the on line quote but the guy at this number helped me.

I mean, that accurately describes any dealer, or business requiring licensing and permitting lol.

Havng purchased several vehicles in SoCal my experience is that dealers here don't want to sell the factory ESP due to low profit margin. They will seel a third party plan for 2-3 times the price. I just checked my offer sheet for the JTM and they wanted to sell me the plan for $5999. I bailed and got the Max Care for 1/3.
