I like the idea of the Engine Brake Feature on the GDE but it seems like most people go Banks.

GDE says +45 HP and +80 FTLB

Banks says +57 HP and +73 FTLB

I went with the Banks set up. iDash gauge, Pedal Monster, and Derringer. The reason being that I didn't need a separate cloned ECU. Plus trying to find a dealer willing to do the cloning. If I have to go back to the dealer for service. Undo 3 plugs and it's back to stock. If it wasn't for the cloning. Think I might have gone with GDE or MRTuning.

I like the idea of a completely rewritten PCM as opposed to an amplifier.

I don't really know which is better overall.

doing more reading it looks like the GDE gives you +2mpg and really changes the setpoints on the transmission. im not sure if the Banks does the same .

Banks does nothing for the tranny. But I do know when you set the power to 6. It WILL light the tires up.

I’m curious about this as well…
I don’t remember where I read it, but I recall GDE not recommending it with either larger tires or different gears.. don’t remember which.

GDE is a tune. Banks is a Piggyback that just adjusts gain on sensors inline.

I've had nothing but problems with piggybacks, historically. And I'm not a special case.

That said, if it gets the job done and is easily reversible...

But the GDE is a real tune that keeps everything within manufacturer specs, ie turbo bearing load, exhaust temps, etc, with additonal benefits like primarily utilizing the low pressure egr for longevity while maintaining legality.

It looks like not only does GDE offer cloning in house now, but they have spare PCMs on hand as well. Still a pricy endeavor.

If someone near Orlando has a banks adapter, 37s, factory gears, and wants to line em up, I'm game.
Other than that, the above specs get me about 8 second 0-60 pulls.

Banks says +57 HP and +73 FTLB

I'll give you 700-800 reasons why.

What do mean by compatible?

Hmm. Don't recall hearing this but it is in all likelihood a basic disclaimer. It's a Jeep. If you are going in for a tune, It's difficult to imagine you haven't already done the tires and possibly the gears.
NTM, you would absolutely smoke Sport tires.

If you have a non available from the factory set up in regard too gears, tire size, ETC… a tuner is non compliant, therefore not recommended by the manufacturer of said tune.

The banks intercepts boost and fuel rail pressure signals and fakes the numbers. Our fuel system is 2000 bar max (29,000 psi range) and with banks the pressure can reach close to 2300 bar, this is way above Bosch limits and will lead to shorter CP4 life...Bad idea. Faking the boost sensor leads to overspeeding the turbo bearings at full throttle..also non bueno. Banks hurts fuel economy, has more frequent regens due to more soot formation in-cylinder and leads to more soot in the oil. Better to leave it stock vs. adding a fooler box like banks.

Thanks! Sounds like GDE is the way to go as long as upgrading to larger tires later does not mess it up.

is the GDE going to work ok on a 2023 JTDR?

I have 27000 miles on my diesel and GDE tuned wnen first became available for gen 3 engines. I have had zero issues. Running 37 tires but went to dealer and had them adjust the software at dealer before I had it tuned for correct speedometer. Just brought my truck to dealer in New York for annual inspection and told them legal tune from GDE please don't over write it. They plugged in but no overwrite. Its a legal tune the truck runs cleaning because mainly off the low pressure EGR 95% of time. Slightly better mpg. Sounds better. More Horse power and torque. The sound is gone when shut off engine. No issues what so ever. The saving in fuel pays for itself if you plan on keeping the vehicle. My only issue is I am very protective when I bring it do dealer so they don't over write the tune otherwise I have to drive back to Michigan again 10 hours from New York to get it tuned. So far so good.

So I guess I need to check the option for a spare cloned pcm so I can swap back to oem before taking it in to the dealer.

from what I’m reading I can use the idash with the GDE so I think I’m set.
