I've had a few hairy situations at a public range... and why I quit going unless with a few people I know and trust. Also a reloader been reloading since 92 regularly somewhat. For several years I packed it up. I could buy in bulk cheaper than reloading plus time. I've spent several New years eve reloading 9mm about 2 5 gallon buckets. Before I get back to reloading like that again I need a new higher production press. I knew I should have bought 10 k in primers years back. My 9mm reloads are conservative. Several days ago I seen Academy had them for $9.99 a box.Yea…. BLM‘s exist around here in PA - within the PA State Game lands. I don’t know the details, but someone we know signed up to use it. He hasn’t gone yet….but I’m curious to know what his experiences would be.
Honestly? And maybe I’m making assumptions….but those areas seem like a ‘free for all’. The last thing I wanna do, is go somewhere with a bunch of buttheads blasting shit up with no regards to safety. Our gun club installed cameras on all the ranges because of ‘sketchy’ things….and they’ve caught folks!!
My husband, had a Dillon 550. He recently upgraded to a 750 with brass & bullet feeders. I think I remember him saying, he can relaod 800 rounds in an hour. Also a reloader been reloading since 92 regularly somewhat. For several years I packed it up. I went through several thousand a time or two. I actually got a "questionable blisters on my hand.My husband, had a Dillon 550. He recently upgraded to a 750 with brass & bullet feeders. I keep his primer tubes filled, I perform the plunk test on all the rounds, put them in ammo boxes and mark with sharpies. He has this overly complex method of keeping track of literally everything.
He enjoys reloading - says its relaxing….
You can never have too many primers. We were out of the hobby for about 8-9 years and he had a similar stash from back in 2010 or so. Started back up into shooting this spring…..It didn’t take long to go thru that stash.
I'm still using my Rock Chucker II that I bought in 1980.I went through several thousand a time or two. I actually got a "questionable blisters on my hand.lesson learned wear good leather gloves when doing extensive reloading session. My press isn't as nice or highly regarded by many. Lee Pro 1000 it was worth what I paid for it, not the top line like a Dillon. But in it's first 4 years it was cranking out several thousand a week. Most of the time. Oh I miss when primers was a cent or two each, powder about $10 a lb. or less. I like a 750 or 850 Dillon.
Snikey! I can't believe I just found this thread. I used to shoot a lot of 3-gun and steel challenge with an STI Edge (and others) but always liked the Shadow 2 except for the DA/SA. I do own a Shadow 2 factory SAO, though. Curious as to which M&P did you move to and what did you do to it for competition?I've been shooting various disciplines for a couple decades, all different kinds of firearms etc.
Currently my "main thing" is competition shooting, I am a USPSA Carry Optics Master. The round count on my Shadow 2 is just over 50,000, but it's semi-retired in favor of an M&P now.
The Shadow 2 still works good, one issue I was having was an occasional failure to extract. Changing the extractor spring is a pain in the butt... Gun would still run ok, but now all my magazine tubes are worn out, specifically the feed lips. Mags are expendable, all of my mags have had the springs and followers replaced 3 times, but now the tubes need replacing. Which means new magazines, plus a couple of the extended basepad locking springs are screwed up, so instead of spending $400 on some magazines and base pads I just bought a new gun. Why not?Snikey! I like the M&P2.0. I have a 4" Compact. Before the Edge, I shot a PPQ Match with an Apex trigger and other stuff. Very good setup, but you know you always want more. The Shadow 2 still works good, one issue I was having was an occasional failure to extract. Changing the extractor spring is a pain in the butt... I bought a 5" M&P. Mods - removed the thumb safety and installed S&W's frame plugs, and installed an Apex trigger kit. That's it. Oh and I epoxied silicon carbide to the grip.
It's different. I do like it quite a bit. It's not as heavy as the Shadow 2 - it flips more, but that doesn't mean much to me anymore, the return to zero is fine. So it really hasn't slowed me down. It is definitely faster to draw and takes less to muscle the gun for transitions, but of course it's taken a bit of an adjustment to not over drive it. Initially I was dragging off and over transitioning, but I've fixed most of that. There's no DA first pull, but that didn't really bother me with the other gun.
The mags also hold 24+1 compared to 23+1 for the other gun, which can be significant on some stages. Usually if I have zero extra rounds or 1 I am going to plan for a reload, but if I have 2 makeup shots available to me, that's a lot more comfortable of a margin than one or zero.
Topped with a 507 Comp because I had one laying around. I hate FDE, but S&W does not sell it in black anymore unless I wanted to try to get my LEO dealer to get me one, and I wasn't interested in that hassle when this one was on the shelf at Fleet Farm.

I also occasionally shoot PCSL 2 gun, so this is my poverty blaster for that. Nothing much special at all, ATC makes a really nice trigger though.
