i mean not just hard but sometimes it just will not shift neither moving nor stationary despite several tries When it does go it is from max effort. Dealer time or keep trying to loosen it up? I have tried maybe 20 times.

Have you ever been able to shift into 4H? It was hard for the first few times I did it, took many attempts to my embarrassment with my father-in-law

Twice. But then it went back to me stopping trying as I was using so much pressure I thought it would break something

The shifter is really stiff. I mean mine went out of 4L to N because I didnt have it in all the way. However, I would suggest going to the dealer and asking them. Might feel foolish, but better than breaking something on the off chance there is a problem. Or if you can, find another Jeep owner who has gone off roading and ask them.

After one time into 4H and driving up and down a mountain it shifted easier.

Same here the first few times, but it seems to be getting easier the more I use 4H (mostly for the frequent snow storms we've been getting lately). It also feels like if you apply a slight left to right angle when you pull back helps. Could just be a "break-in" thing. Time will tell.

There have been a few threads on this and it does seem that it's just really hard the first few times. Mine was too and I also thought something may be wrong, but it was fine after using 4wd a few times. Seems to be easier if you're shifting on the fly as well.

yes but OP’s post sounds like he acknowledges it is stiff at first and he has gone through the other threads looking for advice (ie tried shifting moving and stopped, pulled hard enough to feel like he was breaking it, etc)

I couldn’t get mine to shift at first either lol. The manual states to let off the accelerator just before switching to 4H. This made it pretty easy to shift. It’s still stiff, but waaay better. They also suggest speeds no greater than 45mph when switching to 4H.

Yeah I was trying at about 15. I will try letting off the gas and/or goosing

I appreciate the replies. I am a couple of weeks from trying out the suggestions as I had my knee replaced yesterday.

I've always done rolling shift, and heard many years ago to never have your foot on the gas. So, I wouldn't goose the gas because you don't want load on the drive train

I pop mine into neutral when shifting between 2H and 4H and it seems to help more than just letting off the gas, or holding the gas pedal at an even coast position. And it's getting better the more I use it.

That is a good habit, so you will remember to go to N when shifting into 4Lo also. Grand idea!
Cheers

Been out wheelin quite a bit and at first it was pretty stiff. No it goes in like butter! 4 LOW is a different story though. I have used it twice. If it feels it went into 4LOW then pull some more until it clicks twice!!
