Occasionally my map side (I have map on left, widgets on right) goes black on startup. A reset works, of course, but then I noticed that if I switch headlights from Auto to On and then back to Auto it fixes it.

Do you have a Tazer installed?
He doesn't know me very well, eh? :giggle:

No, no tazer.

Do you actually USE the cellular/XM connection?
The answer to that is in the original video - snippet here - ;)

Yes. WE, my wife and I, both use the XM radio. FM stations suck - there's nothing good on at all.
AM is all talk radio or sports channels - ugh.

I don't get the idea that you can talk Jeep and "sound quality" in the same sentence.
The XM side of things actually sounds good - and it's as good as anything from a phone over BT through the radio. At least to 68year old ears.
Jeep and quality sound, like government intelligence, don't go together. the road noise pretty much kills that idea even in a 2025 model.

Anyway, I tried it again after it has been sitting a couple of days, and it's all good.
I'm betting it was due to an OTA update. These get very different updates from pre-24 models. They get map updates, among other things.

Normally, when you get one of those, you get a screen that stays like this for a couple of days, then settles back to the regular home screen. The NAV works, but the home screen won't show the NAV display after a NAV update.

Sounds like a number of folks had this happen to them yesterday. We also had it happen in the middle of our cross country trip yesterday afternoon.

Stopped one time for gas&snacks, but when we started the truck, the screen dumped into this behavior. Soft resets didn’t help.

Through hard resets and a lot of cussing, we got it to where CarPlay (nav) and the reverse camera would show up, but without any of the normal menu top/left bar functions. It stayed like that through a couple more gas stops and finally came up working after the last one, 8 hours later.

Really annoying, along with the forced OTA updates that lock out the entire screen and cameras without a choice to delay it until it’s safe/more convenient. We sat parked at a gas station while it started that process at a pump once. Fortunately we were not pressed for time then.

I doubt FCA/Stellantis is trying to fix these issues — they’ve been around for at least a year. I’ve started to think it’s just Uconnect5 and we completely skipped looking at Ram trucks in our consideration for a HD/SD tow vehicle purchase because of it.

Thanks for the tip about the camera connections — I know our front one is good because I’ve reseated it during some repairs. I will check the rear!

They may have a legal issue there - no entity like FCA can cause the backup camera to not function.
It's the law and if they cause the camera to not work, like mine didn't when backing into the garage, and something happened - FCA cause it to not function - NHTSA would be involved.
They cannot be the cause of that camera not working. I don't care if people don't like the camera, or don't use it or whatever - it's a federal law.

All I'm saying is the xm in mine sounds like the GE alarm clock radio I had as a kid, but everything else, even FM, is better sounding. But I hear you on the cost cutting measures of Stellantis.

Unless you NEED those incremental map updates, try unplugging the cellular connection from the back. It won't void any warranties, or prevent it from starting. You just won't have new bugs or delays...or ads as some people have been reporting.

Mine did this, this morning. Switched from standard to metric. Shut it off, restart it and it switched back to standard. My battery is in need of being replaced.

My 2020 screen does weird things or even shuts down occasionally. Turn off ignition, open the door then restart and almost always it will reboot fine. Gremlins……

I'm having a similar issue with the screen jumping around. It happens maybe once every 3 or 4 days and the next time I start it up it will be totally normal. I've tried the soft resets and they don't help.

I was wondering if you keep getting a pop up asking for confirmation to update the maps over wifi? I'll click yes, and then it goes to the screens showing the available wifi networks. (which I've already connected to my home wifi) Then nothing else happens. I've sat in the truck with the vehicle on for a few minutes, but I never see anything updating.

I'm curious if I'm doing something wrong so that the maps won't update causing the uconnect system to go crazy.

I don't get a popup asking, it just happens
Also, no wifi.
It's never asked to connect. Not sure how it even could. That requires that it has active wifi and our garage isn't attached. Wifi is iffy out there.
