Headliner Noise Reduction - Worth it?

Fellow Gladiators,
I have been driving my 2022 Mojave for A couple months now and cannot get over how loud the ride is at highway speed. Was looking into (1) sound deadening mat beneath the carpet and also (2) sound deadening headliner on the bottom side of the hardtop.
Questions:
(1) Any recommendations for sound deadening material on the floor boards?
(2) Any recommendations for a sound deadening headliner? I have seen some really cheap options on eBay as well as a $400 plus option on quadratech. Thoughts?

Watching... I ordered a Coverking headliner during their Black Friday sale. This morning I'm searching if roof sound deadening material is worth installing as well?

I have looked on YouTube for information and found there’s an issue with the weather stripping around the windshield, that allows for folding it down, along with around the removable roof sections. One guy added the sound deadening like the factory supply’s and a certain type of weather stripping in certain areas. Just look up noise reduction in new Gladiator.

Gonna be a lot of opinions.. But generally speaking the aluminum/butyl or asphalt layers people place on help with vibration, the fabric and thicker or more dense layers help with reflection and some sound penetration.

I have done my floor boards with Noico 80mm and then covered that with a layer of closed cell foam 150mm. It made a traceable difference, measured with a microphone it was between 2-3 db at highway speeds, which is actually substantial.

For the headliner I have the Hotheads, it helped a lot with reflection and the truck sounds, well smaller inside but also more quiet when speaking. As far as wind noise, didnt do much and most of that will be in the glass as it's the surface that is colliding with the air.

GL, there are youtube videos where people have done similar things and measured the results as I did.

I used coverking headliner with sound deadener on my top only. Noise reduction is minimal in my case.

My solution? El-cheapo mesh top with a black queen sized comforter stuffed between screen-top and hardtop. Cost was just a little over $100. Installation time less than an hour with no tools or hardware required. Does a better job at reducing noise and increasing thermal insulation than more expensive and time consuming solutions out there.

And, as a bonus, you have an emergency winter blanket at the ready should the need arise (as well as a mesh top for summer topless driving)

With that said - most road noise originates from somewhere other than your hard top. Addressing those areas is a separate issue.

Look into armorlite flooring, tuff flooring with it's own insulation, no need for carpet or floormats.

Even in New England the headliner makes a huge improvement in the performance of the AC with the black hardtop. As far as noise, it’s loud and always will be loud. If you wanted quiet like a Merc, Audi or Bimmer, you should have bought one of them instead.

I have factory mopar headliners.
last summer, i took out the front tops and sprayed them(anything white, igloo cooler like was sprayed)with BOOM MAT sound deadening spray. (check my profile, i have a post on it) one coat of flat black then the boom mat. 2 cans barely did the front tops. I will be doing the rear section this coming summer.
the difference was for sure noticeable.

Highway noise is a common complaint with the Gladiator, and adding sound deadening can make a huge difference.

For the roof, a headliner is one of the best upgrades you can make. Our Hothead Headliners feature a 3-layer design with a built-in radiant barrier, reducing road noise and improving insulation better than foam alternatives. Unlike the Mopar headliner, ours also includes a radiant barrier for better temperature control.

For the floor, we offer Sound Assassin, an 80mil, butyl-based sound deadener that installs under the carpet to reduce road noise and vibrations. Pairing it with a headliner provides the best overall sound reduction and insulation. If only going with one of them, we recommend starting with the headliner first as you'll notice the most benefit with that.

How about road noise from the tires? Any opinion on reducing this noise?

For tires I stand pretty firmly behind focusing on the floors, driving noise has come down more since installing Armorlite. Armorlite has a fiber layer about 4x thicker than stock and its close to 1/2" of fiber behind a TPO layer that seals pretty well. It was noticeable.

Still, my two favorite mods so far have been the Armorlite and the Hotheads head liners. Wind noise is mostly at the front window so thats hard to fix. Still they make a difference in the splash or echo noise inside and with the Armorlite the Jeep feels properly damp up until about 35, which is really wear the windshield noise comes in. The Hotheads did help noticeably with the freezing temps we had for a couple weeks and in my opinion help more with the stereo as well.

I opted for the red Hotheads and painted the HT interior black. With all of it done it feels really nice.

In short, get Armorlite for tire noise. Get the Hotheads for the stereo and for interior sourced noise improvement.
