I currently use a Vevor diesel heater with success, but @chorky always has inspiring posts. These really help us think together and come up with suitable solutions for everyone's budget and situation - for that, I thank him and everyone who chooses to participate.

I decided to order a Propex HS2211 setup to try it out. It won't hurt to do my own testing that I'll of course share with all of you.

Van Cafe mentioned shipping is slow right now, but once it arrives here in Alaska, I'll alert the group.

Here's what I'm excited for and hope works out:

- eliminate the need to carry a third fuel source
- have a thermostat to better control temps, the diesel heater BAKES the RTT
- eliminate the noise of the diesel heater fuel pump ticking, although maybe it's soothing ?
- be able to mount to the rack instead of awkwardly carrying in the Jeep due to the height of the diesel heater

Oh man! You beat me to it! I am super excited for you and to hear how you like the setup! Hopefully it's as good as I expect.

And if you dont like it, I know a guy who will buy it :like::LOL:

But seriously this is cool, really looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

For what it's worth my cheap $125 Chinese diesel heater is working great in the Gladiator. Exhaust is vented through the 120volt receptacle location. It comes with a remote control so I can preheat my truck, while sitting in my kitchen.

Small Honda gen 2000 or 2200. Very quiet, use extension cord and electric heater. I like the little buddy 900W heater, perfect for a tent. You can run two in the colder weather.

We don't camp when/where the weather is frigid. We rarely go much bellow 30⁰F but have seen morning Temps in the high teens on occasion. That said We don't run any heat. We learned long ago that the giant stand up tents might as well be outside. Too much air volume (yes if you need a house sized tent in the woods you can easily heat your giant space with a diesel heater etc). Small 3 person dome tent with me, the wife, and the 2 65lb dogs stays plenty warm inside from body heat well into the 20's. I have no desire to listen to a diesel heater, generator, orange man made noise. Remote, simple, primitive camping listening to the coyotes and owls at night is so relaxing. If I felt the need for a heater it would be the quietest one I could find for that same reason.

Makes sense for where you live. If I stuck to that no camping below 30, then I would be restricted to about one moth worth of camping, and usually that is right during fire season. So in order to be able to actually camp, I have to be willing to camp with night time temps into the teens.

I will be going with the propex heater. I think it will work very well for my use case and will provide some additional comfort! Pretty excited!

Winter camping in the Sierras is out for the same reason, but we like a good road trip. Death valley, valley of fire, sand hollow, and now our retirement property in northern Arizona are all 6-10hrs from home but well worth the drive both for the wheeling/scenery and the weather. Just spent our 1st 4 nights camping on our 40.5 acres and even at 5k foot elevation the coldest it got was mid 30⁰s. No need for a heater there. I do plan on building a cabin on the property in May so next winter will likely be a wood stove for heat. The current setup works great for us.

I don’t know about you but when my Dane farts, it wakes every up and yes it also warms the space until I elbow the wife to open the window for some fresh air. We opted for the larger set up so the Dane has her own room to make her noises and dream gallop all to herself.

Fortunately the pit bulls aren't usually too gassy and sleep pretty soundly.

Keep in mind that heaters that work like MR Buddy requiring air dont work as well at higher elevations, above 7k is what its says on the box. I was ice fishing this weekend at 8,800 ft and our Mr Buddy would only work at low setting, when setting to high, it would burn for a bit and then stop.

Propex heaters are not the same as a a Mr. Buddy heater. Propex heater are a vented heater. Mr. Buddy is a ventless. They also have a high altitude kit for those who will frequently be above 7,500' and still work fine at sea level.
