It sounded more like gears grinding, not quite the same sound as when I tried to incorrectly engage 4L
They press pretty hard and make a hard rub noise. Take a video and record it. I can almost guarantee it’s the brakes and it’s normal. I use it a lot.

Doesn't Jeep call it "SelecSpeed Control"? You have to be in 4-low for it to work. Then you push the button and move the shifter to manual mode. You can move the speed up and down with the shifter. The dash cluster will show your current speed.

Yes it's a noisy system. It uses the ABS system to apply brake to each corner as necessary. So the hydraulic pulses are very loud and if you aren't used to it you'll think something is wrong, but that's how the system is designed to work. It's a cool system. All you have to do is steer.
Yes it is a loud mechanical sound - because it's mechanical in nature - solenoids activating to handle the brakes. Anyone who has had their brakes go into anti-lock mode on ice knows the sound - then multiply that by 4 and it's almost scary. It's a fast hard sound.

Is using this system on a muddy hill decent (or at least wet soil) as my offroading video showed recommended? Or is it more for dry rocky roads?

I've watched most of TFL's coverage of those trucks and they are loud also. Nathan even commented on it in at least one video.

Selec-Speed Control (mentioned 2 times) and Hill Descent (mentioned only once) are almost not addressed at all the Owners Manual. Is there another document or place where our beloved factory/manufacturer addresses them?

Just got back from an ORV park where we used the Hill Descent feature and were almost certain something was wrong with our Jeep because of the noise. Glad to have found this posting and to see (hear?) that it's mostly likely the normal sounds created by the components used. Thanks.

I came from a Toyota Tacoma, and the Toyota system is a lot rougher, I think it's designed that way (Toyota), so that if you become high centered the Tacoma can actually shake sand back under the tires to help it free itself.

I use the system probably 3 times a week in VERY deep and soft sand, multiple times Ive been able to get through where most aren't able to, extremely happy with it!!
