I’m a dumbass. Backed into a Tacoma in the Hooters parking lot today. Camera was on and heard the beeping. Just wasn’t paying attention. Owner asked me why I didn’t drive off cause they were inside eating and had no idea. Never crossed my mind to do that. Going to be an expensive mistake. Wasn’t a scratch on my JT.

Good on you for not being "that guy."

I did something similar years ago in my old F150. Backing out of spot in a parking garage after a Rush show, misjudged my turn a bit and brushed the car in the next spot, a mild scratch for him, nothing for me. Hung out until the owner got back, he was similarly surprised that I didn't just take off. Told him that I never want to be "that guy." He brushed it off, we shook hands, and that was that.

Honesty and accountability are, sadly, all too rare these days.

Hats off for doing the right thing, as painful as it will be.

Similar story to the rest of you. I was an idiot once and pulled into a spot and just wasn’t paying attention, hit the side of a car barely. I went in the restaurant had them call and I brought him out because it was a new Mustang. He said it was a rental and who cares, nothing ever happened. Personally, anyone who wouldn’t do this I don’t want to associate with.

I did the same thing with my old Kia minivan. I backed into someone at Burger King. I had to go back in and ask people who owned the car I hit.

I don’t know what’s worse, driving a Kia minivan, eating at Burger King, or backing Into someone.

No worries, I also did the same thing at Stone Brewery, these trucks are long. I backed into a full size ram, but, I only have the backup camera, no beepers... lol.. Nothing happened to my steel bumper. I left a note on his windshield and the guy was shocked that I just did not drive away. He was so happy I left a note that he barely mentioned the dent I left.

Slightly different story..

Several years ago, my brother and I were parked near a business talking on the sidewalk area. We watched a young woman pull up to parallel park between my brother's truck and another vehicle. As she attempted to get into the space, she backed into my brother's truck, pulled forward, backed into it again, pulled forward... she probably hit the front of his truck 4 times total.

The woman then got out of her car and proceeded to walk across the street, never even glancing back. I called out to her and said "you just hit our truck several times". She snapped back "that's what bumpers are for" and just kept walking.

I was amazed that someone would repeatedly back in to a vehicle and just walk off without even looking to see if there was damage. Especially not knowing if we were the owners or not. (It was an old Ford truck from the company my brother owned. So, it didn't matter in the end.)

Kudos to the OP for hanging around and fessing up!:like:

I would have rammed into her car several times on my way out.

I think it's pretty funny how desensitized we have become to chirps and beeps and alarms. When everything makes a tone it becomes easier to ignore the warning.

That's one reason for the move away from certain street or traffic signs and different designs for the streets - the round-about as we call it here, for example, gets rid of stop signs and forces a person to wake up a bit while at least keeping traffic moving. My wife hates them, I'm not fond of them, but I do see an advantage.

Years and years ago we used to hit a local gambling joint with slot machines every few months (then we decided it would be cheaper just to drive by the place and drop a 20 out the window and keep moving - that was our joke, anyway)
My wife and I had been playing quarter slots for a while and there was all of this clanging and ringing and alarms and lights and my wife looks around and asked a couple of people what was wrong, what happened. She was advised by those people - you just won.......that's YOUR machine.

Anyway, I could also never just leave. If there was zero damage at all, not even a scuff, yeah but if there was so much as a scuff on a black bumper I'd either try to find that person or leave them a note with a full description of what happened, my vehicle and info on how to contact me and my insurance agent's info. (these days I'd also take a picture or two)
If something is my fault - gotta own up to it. I think a big part of that is how we were raised.
