Does water get in around the doors? How about the backseat?
Water does get in. It’s not waterproof, but for a daily when it’s a light rain, it keeps you dry on the ride home. Wish it was a little longer in the back. If it’s a downpour, you’re going to get a little wet.

if it’s a weeks worth of rain, the hard top is coming out.

I've seen a lockable replacement for the under seat storage, but I haven't gotten one yet. Not sure where I saw it though...perhaps somebody else can chime in for both of us.
Might be able to find them used on the marketplace.
I have been using Rain gear cover and its great top. But your not storing it under or behind your seat. Maybe in bag in bed of truck if you have cover
Yes, it is bulky.
Sorry to add on to this, but can anyone comment on how long it takes to set up / take off? Being in FL I just never thought of this and just planned on parking in my garage and only driving when there isn't any rain.
Rain gear isn't quick and that's why I don't use it without help.
I just wait for the Jeep to dry, or place a tarp over the driver's seat. Otherwise if it's raining for a while, I'll leave the hard top on.

I use the RainGear cover. It's bulkier than the Mopar cover, but it fits over the hardtop when I have the doors and freedom panels off and rear top on. I don't believe the Mopar cover will fit when the rear top is on. The RainGear cover will not fit under the seat unless you change the folding pattern and not put it in its storage bag. BTW, takes me about 3 minutes to put the Raingear cover on and tighten straps. It helps that I'm 6' with somewhat long arms.

Depends what top your using. I have gotten a bit of a system down on my rain gear cover and I can have it on in a matter of minutes giving complete coverage in most any weather condition. Me cheapy lightweight somewhat water repellent cover I can have on in a flash but very limited and certainly would not go to it in moderate to heavy rain or rain/winds. I an put the Rain gear on with my soft top up or down as well as doors on or off. It does not play nice with my jpeggs mirrors though and will leave a slight gap in the front of the door. With the mopar mirrors it seals up tight. I think if your someone kind of on the short side and maybe short arms you might have a bit of trouble with the rain gear top as its very solid and heavy duty making it a bit on the heavy side.

I had the stock rear seat box when I got mine. I pulled it and swapped in the lockable box from 813 Fabrication. You've got to cut the underside of the seat fabric to fit the lockable tab but it's worth it. Comes with a divider panel so you can have the 40/60 split.

I use this several times a month, works great

Have you had it long enough to determine that it holds up the test of time (granted JT's have only been around a couple years)?

Completely waterproof and has never failed me.
Looks loose in the back, does that cause pooling of water on top?

The nice things about rain gear is you can use it with the hardtop on and doors off whereas the mopar cover only works well with top off. Youll have a gap at the bottom with the roof on.
Good callout, those are the details I like to know before getting a product!

I have the Rain Gear cover as well. The fabric is quite heavy...which is the reason it will not fold up enough to fit under the seat. When removed, the cover is folded over width-wise and then rolled back-to-front (or front-to-back) then put back in the canvas bag which results in a cylindrical package approximately 18" diameter X 24" tall. There is some looseness in the back when the rear top is off...which permits enough room to fit over the rear top when you run with the rear top on and doors/freedom panels removed. A simple folded up towel on top of the roll bar (under the cover) keeps water from puddling.

I wouldn't mine seeing photos when time permits.

I guess i was originally thinking someone would come up with a way to lock the seat itself into position vs. an actual container. Wouldn't be 100% theft proof, just making it hard to simply pop the seat up.
Yeah, i haven't seen anything, though you could probably come up with a clasp of some sort that attaches to the bottom of the seat and onto the side/front of the cargo divider thing (whatever the standard thing is called).

Attached are a few pictures of the Jeep under seat storage bin. Compared to pictures of the all metal one i saw in this thread, the Jeep one has some advantages and some disadvantages (big surprise). Note, mine was not latched closed and that is why the left side of the lid appears to be sticking up more than the right.
>Jeep's is formed to fit with the rest of the components like the Jeep rubber floor mats. It cuts back in the front giving room for your heels. I could be mistaken but I think the metal one is straight sided. Slightly less storage, but slightly more convenient to use.
>Jeep's does not use the OEM jack space. This could be a plus or a minus.
>Jeep's has an "oh *$%^!" handle for center seat... I guess it's useful... maybe?

Thanks. Something like that might be in my future. I don't mind if it's just a little damp. My backseat passenger might though. I'm just not willing to pay what the aftermarket soft tops cost, though

This was the exact thinking that led me to the Savanah brief top

It could do that! I thought that handle was for using it as a suitcase. Sure, makes people around here get a little nervous but nobody sits in your way at the movies!
