From the talk in this thread it sounds like the fuel filter is after the high pressure fuel pump. I thought the fuel filter was before the high pressure pump.
If its after that means that filter housing and hoses are handling 29,000 lbs per sq in. Please correct me.

It’s before but the system recirculates.

So excess fuel from the injection system feeds to the tank

I don’t know much about the diesels so I can only wish you the best.

If you know that there will be a problem… like others have said, consider getting rid of it.

The last thing I want to do is come off sounding glib. This sucks. This whole recall situation sucks. It sucks because the pump was moronically designed. It sucks because of arrogance of Bosch. It sucks because it took NHTSA to force STALLantis to address this. It sucks because a technical solution doesn’t take this long and we’re beyond this being a supply chain issue. Mostly it sucks because the complete lack of communication from Jeep.

All that being said, Jeep is on the hook for fixing this. If your fuel system goes they’re on the hook for that too. I’m not at the point where I’m ready to go tell them to pack sand and sell mine. Frankly, id take a loss doing that. I’d drive it until whatever happens, happens.

I’m considering talking to my attorney this week about my options. There’s at least one class action lawsuit now. I don’t really have an existing injury from this beyond frustration so I can’t really sue them. But that doesn’t mean he can’t send a demand letter to Jeep to get some more definitive answer. What I keep getting from my dealership is this continuously shifting timeframe and shrugs. The federal regulator says this is a safety issue. That alone obligates Jeep to tell its customers what’s going on beyond an initial letter.

My worry is not so much the pump going out but that it goes out when I need to be towed out with a strap for many miles over dicey stuff. Makes me think twice about solo trail runs (in areas with a lot of 4x4 traffic) and going too far off the beaten path. I ordered a filter last night after reading this thread, I’m at 23k miles and am on my third filter if you count the factory one.

What blows...is also the dealer that sold it to you is so willing to kick the can over to CarMax. I for sure would not buy JACK from that dealership in the future. They want to let it be someone else's problem, but come back and see us if you want to buy another one. I get what they're saying...they know they can't sell stuff right now and the diesel issues are widely known, but that's crappy. (CarMax is probably aware of them too.)

You're kind of backed into a corner. If it is your daily and can't afford to have it deadlined for an indefinite period of time, you almost have to sell it. I definitely wouldn't be taking it off road anywhere.

The dealerships that have looked at it, are they Ram dealers too? Has an actual diesel tech looked at it? My dealership is a Jeep only store and they have no diesel techs. They’ve told me I need to take it to their other store that does Ram and has diesel techs. A lot of Jeep dealerships know next to nothing about these engines.

Sometimes I think it would be worth it to get the CPX pump for peace of mind. Just hit 30k on mine.

The last few dead pumps reported here had folks being talked to about buy backs almost immediately by the factory. At that point, you are likely going to lose money vs trading in at a dealer with a rare diesel that is “running”. I’ve already mentally prepared to go that route more than once, I’d probably get an appraisal from CarMax then use that at a dealer group such as autonation if their offer is too low.

I’ve got probably close to $15,000 in mods on mine and I love it. If I had to sell it, I’d probably remove the winch, air compressor, swap the lights back to OEM and a few other things to either resell or put on another Jeep. Not sure what I’d get.

I don’t really want a full size truck, the 3.6 in other JTs is awesome, but I don’t want to pay the inflated Jeep price since I bought mine. I’d also have to either build up over time and regear vs picking up with a lift and 37’s from the get go. Otherwise, the Nissan Frontier looks nice and there are slap me silly deals on full size Rams at the moment, but the go anywhere of the JT with the practicality of a truck + torque and bragging rights of the oil burner makes me feel like a housewife of 30 years who discovers my husband has another family. That and I’m addicted to the 7 slot grill. Ugh.

Another way I could describe it, I’m dating a girl I’m over the moon for who everyone tells me is a floozy with diseases. Should I believe them? Is everyone wrong? Right now I’m still in denial or actually happy, not sure.

What is the price for peace of mind?

I’d still be willing to bet that magnetic metal in your fuel filter is just a tell tell that the end is near.

If they’ve played games with us for a year only to do a buy back, then I will definitely be suing. I could have sold my truck at the beginning of this thing for a good price. I certainly would not have spent another dime on it. I don’t think it’s going to come to that.

The buy back is happening for people who have a dead pump in the last few months from what I've read. Let's say mine goes in tomorrow with a dead pump, because they know it'll take longer than the 30-days to be deemed a lemon, Jeep has been reaching out and initiating a "good faith" buyback within a week of confirmed dead pumps. I am sure there will be lawsuits, but the only people getting anything from those will be the lawyers we are appointed as class actions and the ones Stellantis and/or Bosch use to CTA. Right now, we are just getting the shaft.

At a macro level, I doubt they will act upon any demand letter sent from the customer level. Their eventual response to the situation will be a all at once press release and not a piece meal out response, especially if they have not formulated a final fix plan.

If the Takata airbag recall is any indication, they could possibly take multiple years to have a remedy plan in place.

Bought my JTRD May 22, it was built during Apr22, it currently has a almost 26k on it, been using EDT and or their other product alternating every other fillup... changed the filter 2x already with oil changes. This thread makes me want to check it now and change the filter more frequently.

34k miles now, it’s been changed 2 times. Last time there was no metal….

I have gone to two dealers, both told me that they won’t trade it in, because they can’t sell them currently….

The service department at both has told me that yes they suspect cp4 failure in progress.

They also told me they can’t get any parts right now due to the strike. And both told me if it was theirs they would take it to carmax……

They both said there is absolutely nothing that can be done right now.

Basically I wasted 63k.

F***** you Stellantis.
@JeepCares

Let’s see if this gets me banned…. Lol…
How often do you run under 1/4 tank?
