The last few dead pumps reported here had folks being talked to about buy backs almost immediately by the factory. At that point, you are likely going to lose money vs trading in at a dealer with a rare diesel that is “running”. I’ve already mentally prepared to go that route more than once, I’d probably get an appraisal from CarMax then use that at a dealer group such as autonation if their offer is too low.

I’ve got probably close to $15,000 in mods on mine and I love it. If I had to sell it, I’d probably remove the winch, air compressor, swap the lights back to OEM and a few other things to either resell or put on another Jeep. Not sure what I’d get.

I don’t really want a full size truck, the 3.6 in other JTs is awesome, but I don’t want to pay the inflated Jeep price since I bought mine. I’d also have to either build up over time and regear vs picking up with a life and 37’s from the get go. Otherwise, the Nissan Frontier looks nice and there se slap me silly deals on full size Rams at the moment, but the go anywhere of the JT with the practicality of a truck + torque and bragging rights of the oil burner makes me feel like a housewife of 30 years who discovers my husband has another family. That and I’m addicted to the 7 slot grill. Ugh.

Another way I could describe it, I’m dating a girl I’m over the moon for who everyone tells me is a floozy with diseases. Should I believe them? Is everyone wrong? Right now I’m still in denial or actually happy, not sure.

What is the price for peace of mind?

I’d still be willing to bet that magnetic metal in your fuel filter is just a tell tell that the end is near.
Not to mention that if someone got a buyback part of your damages are a current interest rate 2-3 times what it was in …my case 2021. Did they cause the rates to go up, no, but being forced to refinance something new could and probably cost thousands.

I also have no idea how a buy back works. Do they give you trade in value, private party value or price you paid - 58 cents per mile driven + some other multiplier type formula?

I don’t know either. But it’s important to know your total loss before signing the dotted line.

Maybe part of the restitution would include their financing of an alternate vehicle at the same or better terms and interest rate.

The REALLY crappy thing is that once he dumps it at CARMAX, we're going to have a new member on here super excited that he got a used diesel Glady yesterday and can't wait to start modding it.....

The 3 months down the line, he's asking why his diesel mysteriously died on him.

Maybe, I think I've heard it that way before, they work it out with your bank some how. I know I wouldn't want to give up my 1.99% loan either. The cheap ass in me thinks about getting a cheaper truck every other month, like a used power wagon, but with interest rates my payment would be higher on a truck I'd have 0 equity in.

At a macro level, I doubt they will act upon any demand letter sent from the customer level. Their eventual response to the situation will be a all at once press release and not a piece meal out response, especially if they have not formulated a final fix plan.

If the Takata airbag recall is any indication, the could possibly take multiple years to have a remedy plan in place.
I’m pretty sure you’re correct. I may run it by him to see what he says. I’m curious what NHTSA’s position is on this. Actually getting to talk to the regulators is hit or miss. I’ve had some success with the CFPB and FTC but usually you just get a letter.

Yeah…and if CarMax can prove you knew there was an issue and failed to disclose it while selling they come straight to you for recourse…not just Stellantis. These pesky public forums. Once you’re out there…you’re out there…

Exactly. The 2023 version of my truck is $15k more. In 2021 I got 1.9% financing. Now it’s 5% at NFCU. What’s more, values have actually come back down since the recall started. We could have dumped these things then. If this recall becomes a buyback values will fall through the floor. We’ll be out thousands. And if you’ve modified your truck, even more. This also may mean that they’re unwilling to replace the fuel system and CP4 for those who are want to take their chances with an aftermarket pump. A fleet wide buyback may mean no more fixing fuel systems.

Yeah, I have a bit of an ethical issue with selling a truck I know is about to die and screw somebody else.

Similar situation, I don't want to give up that NFCU interest rate.

Yeah the ethical side of this is awful….

I think I’m going to just stay the course and keep it…

Knowing it will likely strand me in rush hour, or on a ski trip, or taking my pregnant wife to the hospital sucks…..

I really hope they sort this out asap….

Same. 1.89 at USAA... lift, tires, sliders, armorlite. Buyback would suck if they don't make us whole.

Cut the filter open and show us the business side of the filter. Open the pleats and see what kind of metal is in the filter, not just on the housing. When mine blew, I had just over an ounce of shavings in the filter and surely more in the lines and stuck in the injectors.

That little amount of metal is concerning but not necessarily a death blow to the engine but there's no way to tell if the plunger is rotated short of pulling the pump. You can try to flush the system. Install a new filter, prime the system, pull the filter and repeat until you have no shavings or metal in the filter.

Most people get rid of their vehicles because something is wrong will it.
