So, I thought i would run down to the fuel station and fill up and get a 6-pack, put 2 ozs of EDT in and grabbed the pump nozzle and it wouldnt go in! I thought what the heck? Made sure it was the small (passenger type) nozzle tried it again , no luck. So I get home and seems I cant trip the flapper inside the filler neck with a screwdriver......

Please tell me am I missing something???? My Jeep only has about 3300 miles on it and I think ive only filled it up about 6 or 7 times since I got it. I am a little hesitant to try and force the flapper with a screwdriver and hammer but crap! If this had happened on the road out of town I would for sure.

Might as well remove that whole restrictor assembly. Some suggested using a big pair of channel locks to squeeze the assembly a bit and rotate it out. The big channel locks worked great for me for removing it.

I was surfing thru some other posts, and I guess maybe I was using a diesel pump with the smaller nozzle (gas size)? I didnt realize that besides the innability to use the large truck nozzles we cannot use the smaller (gas) size nozzles that some stations might have installed on the green diesel pumps.....geeeeez! What a pain in the as&! We cant move our vehicles if the door is open, cant put fuel in it when we need it. What the heck is going on, I miss my older vehicles sometimes. I personnaly accidently pumped some gas in my 2nd generation cummins ONCE! I wont make that mistake again, so I do not need the regulators protecting me. Sorry for the rant, that restrictor is gonna be thrown in the garbage along with any other crap that is restricting my use of this vehicle.

Ohh, if you care about being able to move the jeep when the door is open the jl tazer is something you want. Does alot more than just that though if you want to look into it.

This happened to me on a trip in Colorado. Went to another pump and it worked.

I've never tried it in drive, but if you're backing up with the door open, you shift back to park and then back to reverse to let it bypass the crappy failsafe. I will be checking if it works while moving forward today.

I have not checked out the Tazer option, but since I have one, I might do that as well.

Make sure your seat belt is on. Apparently it only trips that if your seat belt isn't on. *Just what I was told, I haven't tested it yet.

If you get sick of trying and failing to remove the discriminator (or don’t want to bother) there’s always this simple adapter. Works for both high-flow big boy nozzles, and like the OP when the station put the wrong smaller gasoline nozzle on the diesel handle

I broke the plastic piece off removed the flapper and bought a whole new one to get the little plastic piece and click it back in.

It was just the pump. If it's not the perfect size the flap won't open - that is why a screwdriver won't work. If someone previously dropped the nozzle and bent or damaged it might not work and was most likely your issue. Next time just try another pump. I had this happen to me at a Wawa. Even the pump attendant was stumped until another one came over and told us it was just the nozzle.

The restrictor is pretty easy to take out... just take your time. Looks like you already have researched some older threads. It was one of the first mods I did. Personally I do not care for any adapters or step-sized funnels... so the removal works for me.

Suggested from another forum member, I purchased these incase someone besides me ever filled up my JT, since the restrictor also prohibits the "Regular" gas nozzle from being used.

Well, shoved the wire strippers in the fuel fill inlet, rotated CW about 20 degrees and I heard a snap, put the channel locks on the lip of the inlet so I could leverage, wiggled and pulled and it popped right out. This took all of 1 minute. Then I spent the other 5 minutes trying to release the "snaps" to remove the restrictor from the inlet. It is now in the trash! Thanks all for your perspective on this, it sure is a lot cleaner without that crap in the inlet!

Wow, glad yours came out so easy. A few of us had a lot of trouble.
