Three and a half inch lift, 37-in ko2s.
I don't have an eighth gear fetish.
I rented a jlu-r last year with 35 inch ko2s and noticed that the transmission like to over downshift by a gear or two which was remedied by upshifting to something that wasn't screaming the 3.6 when it wasn't necessary. I know the Gladiator has more weight but the Wrangler did not seem totally underpowered just acted that way by winding out every time it called for a little more pedal.

Best I could do.

Now that I've decided to make my jeeps antics public it's begun to straighten up its act and fly right, lol.
Hand calc was within one mile of the Jeeps combined projected range. Pretty good I'd say.

This last fill up was roughly half a tank. Within that half tankful there were persistent regens though there was a significant portion of City driving involved. I skipped the diesel additive for the last two tanks, but did the max dose for this tank.
Interesting observation, the first quarter tank truck felt sluggish and the current mileage indicator confirmed that not being able to go over 18.5 which would usual driving would be at its most optimistic in the low 20s. At roughly three quarters of a tank it seemed to sort itself out and was back to normal both with the current mileage in Decatur and how the truck felt under the pedal.

391/19=20.58

Last pic is the trucks prediction immediately after fill up of 19.3 MPG for this tank. Can it taste the cetane?

Stock wheels and tires, bought it and drove it home 200+ miles

A few tanks later

After I did a 2.5” leveling kit

And shortly after I went to 37s, now I hover between 21.5-22.5 and can still squeeze 400 miles on a tank of diesel. Wish we all knew what the heck was going on with yours, hopefully it starts getting better!
I think this is great and exactly what I was expecting when I ordered a diesel.

My last trip from south of Pittsburgh to Denver and back 3,200 miles. I got 24 for a overall avg. The lowest I got was 19 in Kansas. The highest I got was 29 in Co. Mo. and In. All of this was doing about 5 over the speed limits of 65, 70, and 75. This is with a stock JTRD.

Yeah i was about that mpg when i first bought mine too. All freeway driving and never above 75. But then, the tires went on and the lift went on and the steel bumper wings came off. You know the game.

I've tried using a consistent light touch on the throttle to maintain the mileage gauge in the green and that didn't seem to work too well.

On my last tank I gained 3 mpg (21) by operating the throttle as if I were driving a manual.
I have been experimenting with this as well.

Nice to see your notes since we're in the same area.

My Baseline:
Higher and Heavier than OEM
JSCAN speedo correction
JTRD
12.50x70x17
1.5" leveling kit
Stubby + 12k winch
LOD Destroyer sliders

Feathering the go peddle only gets me to 21.5 in town
20 cruise control @ 70 in 8th gear

I don't think lugging below 2k in a higher gear gets the results I'm looking for.

Yesterday I started driving as a manual and tried keeping the rpms at 2k

Seeing 25 mpg in town.

Haven't tried holding 7th on the highway yet

This is starting to make me think the shift points in full auto in relationship to the torque curve is being under utilized due to the gearing reduction of adding taller tires than oem.

I was under the impression that jscan recalibrated the shift points as a result of flashing new tire size.

To borrow my dad's favorite catchphrase, I will just need to accept "It is what it is..." since my guess is the real solution to optimize the oem torque curve, power band is to regear.

That's a bridge too far right now for my wallet.

I do have a long range plan of moving up to a tune, lift, regear, 38s and possibly a def delete after it's out of warranty.

Just my 2 cents.

What I do that works best to increase my mileage is buy more diesel and not worry about the mpg.

Are you still running the 3.73s? How tall are those Pat's when mounted on the jeep?

Filled up at about 2/5. Truck did not like the "Performance Shot" (2oz) of the diesel additive (as shown by the drop in mileage and lackluster performance) and was in regen a few times.

It's interesting how this method absolutely blows away the factory estimates.

I didn't get the size of your tires. I'm on factory 33" falkens. At some point I'll put the 37 KO2s back on and see how this method does with them.

I drove a buddy's identical setup to mine but with 4.56s and thought it would be a rocket but appears hindered in that the 3.0 is not going to rev quickly regardless of mechanical advantage. His MPGs hover around 20+.
If you're going true 38s then 56s are likely right for you. If I regear it will be 4.11s.
