I have a Bed Rug Liner (which has a 3/4" pad I'm thinking the magnets can't attach through well).

Anybody have suggestions on how to do this with the Bed Rug in place? (I'm a computer guy, so not too real world useful)
Maybe more expensive, but buy some stronger magnets? These aren't anything special, but something like neodymium would be much stronger and easily grab though the carpet.

My original plan was to use some big fender washers in those holes near the rear tie down points to "sandwich" the bed with two big fender washers. Put a bolt through from the back and a nut in the bed side, leaving enough bolt shaft that a wing nut could be added to attach any other accessory. Then it's just about building a rail across the bed above the carpet and securing it to those studs.

Nice idea. I've done a similar setup for my JK, a plank with front tire brackets that I velcro strapped to the 60% portion of the back seat back. I've been looking for a good way to do a similar setup on the Gladiator, and your magnet idea is pretty good.

How stable is it on bumpy roads... the magnets don't break loose? And conversely, if the magnets are pretty stable, how easy is it to pull them off to remove it... as you said to use the truckbed for other stuff?
I have not tested it in bumpy roads yet, but it feels very stable. The magnets hold it well, but they are easy to remove if you "roll" them off rather than try to lift them. Once the bar is on edge, just pick up one end and the last magnet releases its edge.

Basically, when it's on, it's on. The way to get it off is to move it in a way it wouldn't move when the bikes are attached.

We moved to a vertical bike rack this last year- game changer… especially if you take your bikes on any trails…. Lolo has been pretty stout, and kept all of the bikes from tearing each other apart.

Not knocking on the idea of what’s going on in this thread, but for anyone stopping by that might be carting several bikes and is a DIY’er Lolo sells all their components separately to get creative on your own too. ???

I am waiting to see someone with a cab mounted rhino rack pioneer platform setup a few of the fork mounts on the back section and allow the rear tires to sit down in the bed.

Good axel install method! Diagonal key! I deal with kids/fat/enduro bikes every trip (up to 4). 30 years riding... learned bike disassemble at end of ride not always possible (rider or bike damage, severe weather, etc) and front axel configurations all different and always changing. Hitch is needed at times too don't forget. My set-up...see picks. One bike... just put bike in bed diagonal, wheels on, done. My fatbike and enduro bike friction in! Not even a strap needed! Room for gear etc! Tonneau over when on trail for some security (Mopar soft, rollup). Tailgate pad (fox mid size, no damage in 2 continously years use) up to 5 bikes (any size) and gear, tonneau still closes when bikes not in, perfectly for security and mpg. Yes gear for 5 is tough, watch that payload too, but we bought a 5' box'd jeep, not a long bed worktruck. Ride on!

I put my medium Yeti SB 135 in the opposite way. Two bikes have to go over the tailgate though. It will be in the low 60s all week here in the Middle Rio Grande Valley, so riding every day.

My Specialized Enduro xl is tight (1300mm+ wheelbase), but does fit like this too... seal'd deal when I demo'd a gladiator and I tested this, lol. So funny. Straight in my Enduro would barely borderline fit, even with tailgate down! Then tried this and tailgate pressure holds it right in, so awesome/unanticipated. Multi bikes not doing this of course. -10c here in Canada 20" snow last two days. Let hikers pack it down then fatbikes until April.

Believe it or not, I was snow biking last week in the Sandia Mtn foothills, but I live in the high desert, so snow one week, and 50s the next.

Any update to bumpy roads? Don’t have a bike yet, been shopping around to get back into it. I’d like a solution that is not permanent, and don’t like hitch mounts or the covers as they scratch the paint (yes I know it’s a jeep, I can beat on it and keep the paint nice if I want to)

Kona Honzo should work perfect with this setup.

We are in mud season, so not much riding right now. If it moves on bumpy roads I can easily add more magnets or supplement them with straps pulling the bikes down into the bed.

You'd probably have to jump or crash the truck to get the bikes out of the bed.
