In my defense I was left unsupervised.

I got my new RockHard4x4 winch plate and slapped it all together. Went pretty easy so I hooked it to the battery and turned on the wench to spool the extra line back in. It went psycho on me full run away winch. I got it into spool mode but turning the truck on and off didn't do anything and I do not have any sort of cut-off switch for it.

I pulled the positive bus-bar off the battery which did kill the wench but I now had most of the line out of the wench and of course I forgot to take the neg for the AUX battery off. I hooked the power back up and got it re-spooled but it was still in run away mode then the truck did a couple of strange beeps like a fire alarm so I pulled the positive off and unhooked the wench from both +/-.

I turned the truck on and every warning light popped on so I did the thing I always do first .. panic .. then turned it off and let it set for a few minutes. Turned it on and no lights, seemed fine until I tried driving it up the street - limp mode engaged. I thought I killed the CAN-BUS or the main fuse box but no lights or warning came on.

I let it sit all night and this morning it drove fine no limp mode. I'm pretty sure the AUX battery is probably dead which will kill the main but I'll take that over hauling it to the dealership for a few $grand$.

The Lord does protect the stupid (me).

If you did all this without starting the truck, then it's likely just bad or low battery(ies) and the low voltage state is throwing your electronics into a frenzy (common with CANBUS systems). A winch, even when not under load, draws A LOT of amps.

Now, the run-away winch is another issue. That shouldn't happen. What kind of winch?

Yes, the Good Lord does protect us from ourselves and thanks to Him for that! This wasn’t one of those “hold my beer and watch this” moments was it?😏

X2, a runaway winch is not good. Have you figured out why it did that yet? Incorrect connection somewhere? Sticking solenoid? Bad remote? What brand/model?
Good one. I’ve seen/met a spooled up wench from time to time in my life!☺

Haha, that's right. And only in California would someone pay that much for a dealer lifted Sport. I suppose one would be paying for the convenience (and maybe warranty), or they're led to believe that a wench will actually show up.

$53K for a fully loaded Sport S with everything but Max Tow when a base Rubicon starts at $53K. Sure, it doesn't have a wench but if you play your cards right....

That is a new vehicle price though. I got my used Jeep with a “wench” and a bunch of other goodies for way less than half of that. Still feels like a win to me. :like:
