Saab did an endurance run in the late 80s where they ran a 3 Saab 9000s around Taladega for 30 days non stop. Flat out. Full throttle at max speed, roughly 6000 rpm. Nothing broke.

Subaru did a similar test in 1989 when they introduced the "high performance" Legacy with 140 hp. (It was high performance in comparison to their previous 4 cylinder cars which made about 90 hp). They ran three Legacys for 100,000 kilometers flat out at an average speed over 135 mph. Likely between 6000 and 6500 rpm.

And they did fine.

So in summary. If you worry about running your engine to 5000 rpm every once in a while, you are worrying about nothing.

Unless you run a high mile engine easy fir its entire life and that forms a step on the bore where the rings stop their upward travel. Then you run the engine hard and because of rod stretch, the rings slam into the step cracking a ring.

The solution is not to never rev your engine. The solution is to rev your engine from when its new so the step doesn't form. Or at the least forms farther up the bore.
In fact it’s not that I’m worried about the engine . I take good care of him and respect him when he’s cold . It’s just I don’t really like it . 1) engine sound isn’t so good in stock exhaust and I truly believe It’s an habit due to my cars experience . Always driving turbo Diesel engine who are full of torque and power in low rev . I have to learn and adapt to the 3.6 . And everything will be fine coz it’s at the end a great companion . Very very smooth

nobody never had the feeling sometimes the gearbox acting like a dumb? like staying on the same gear o high rev instead of shifting up? an update must be done? or the rubicon stock gear ratio isnt good with 35's
dont know...

I only really noticed this behavior before I reset the tire size in the ECU with a TazerJL. Once the right tire size was programmed, the shifting was basically back to normal with 35s.

Let it rev. The engine doesn't even come alive until about 2500, peak torque at 4400, peak rpm at 6400. Keeping it low all the time makes it a dog, if you let it rev, it actually makes pretty decent torque. I agree with you on the sound. I've been thinking of doing a CAI and a mild exhaust, just for the sound.

I love the 8HP75 paired with the diesel in mine. It’s always in the right gear.

I will try that in a few ;-) I added a CAI , it’s nice . But i didn’t add anything on the exhaust … maybe I should . Let’s go for a rev drive ;-) will let you know .

Sometimes I’m thinking about to change and go for a diesel too … love the super torquy diesel . But actually I’m happy to don’t drive a diesel since it’s close to 8$/gallon here ????

What’s the cost of gasoline there?

Indeed it’s even quite funny to drive it up to 4000 ?

98 is around 7.85
95 is around 7.1$/gal
Wow! I’d kill to even get 93 octane here. 91 is the best swill I can pump.

Believe he is in Canada. So they rate the octane differently.

A CAI does nothing until you are at or near redline at full throttle. I'm guessing you don't spend much time there. Nothing. As in,not even better fuel economy.

Rembmber that there is a large blockage in your intake most of the time you are driving. Its called the throttle plate.

the only nice thing i noticed with the CAI is a very nice deeper sound from admission.
