No, as you walk up to your car at night you press a button on the fob, the lights do a little dance and then it will either blink green or red - green is there's no one hiding in the back seat to carjack you, red is the car detects a heartbeat inside the car.

It's for pearl-clutching suburban housewives, nothing more. I don't think my family ever used it after the car was purchased.
Ah, could be useful here were at least two women were attacked by people lurking inside their vehicle in at least one case - parked in a Walmart lot. (the other one the person was hiding on the other side of the vehicle and waited for the doors to unlock)

It might also be a way for these dopes who forget their kids are in the back seat to avoid trouble - on the other hand, how in the world can a parent forget their baby is with them?

I'd add turn off your phone wifi and Bluetooth when you're out and about, networks in stores can ping your device and to figure out who you are and where you move in the store. Though they also have camera systems with AI collecting that data as well anymore.

Saw this video a while back and was sort of a wakeup call of where we're heading.

The only sure way is to drop your phone in a Faraday pouch. THAT will prevent them collecting data.

Nothing else will.

It’s been known for a while that Tesla’s interior cameras record and collect the driver and passengers behavior. A lot of drivers know this. Why would anyone accept that? All of this is concerning, but again it’s strange to me that this upsets the same people who give no thought to using social media and smart phones. Automakers are if anything late to the game. I’m not making the argument that we should therefore not care. I’m making the argument that all of this should be illegal without explicit positive consent whether it’s an automaker, Google. Apple, our devises or TSA.

Ever look at some picture or video on social media and then start seeing similar pictures or videos showing up without you commenting or liking the first one? One of the algorithms that’s used commonly in social media is to track the length of time you spend looking at a given picture before scrolling as it’s presented to you. This is why scrolling and flipping through posts became a thing. They use this and a myriad of other data points to build a profile to maximize your engagement, ie., dopamine hit. This all came out of neuroscience research in 07-09’. The internet works like a sophisticated designer drug. All of this shit is having profound effects on individuals and society and we don’t even know what the long term neurological effects are, especially to children. We’re starting see some things though, like rising youth suicide rates. “AI” will accelerate all of this. We’re slow walking into some kind of dystopian nightmare.

P.s. own a smart Tv with a camera on it? They’re spying on you too. All of this shit needs to be maximally regulated.

Smart TV's ARE a camera. The screen is all they need. That technology has been around for years.

It's those damned ducks. They're watching me all the time. Those beady little duck eyes, clicking, clicking, clicking. Reporting to their duck overlords. I tried putting foil over the windows but I couldn't see and rear ended a Subaru. Those ducks told on me.

Seriously, though, that old SV saying about "you're not the customer, you're the product" now applies to things we actually buy, like notebooks, phones and even vehicles.
We have a classic case here.........

Technically, it is not an Invasion of Privacy. Somewhere, in all the paperwork you signed and the online agreements for your account creation, you gave permission for this to be done. Jeep collects Telematics Data for review and betterment of their products. For the information they do provide to other parties, no personal data is included. The emails to you are part of the service they provide as part of the SiriusXM Guardian subscription, which is necessary to take advantage of the Remote Start and Vehicle Tracking services they offer.
That explains why i don't get those emails. Glad i don't have those options.

I pay the yearly subscription fee so I have remote start. I don't understand what the problem is. Jeep collects data from the vehicles, they do not actively monitor anyone. My phone collects and transmits more data than the truck ever will. Jeep is paying that monthly connection fee to AT&T for every active Uconnect head unit. They are not going to be attempting large data dumps from everyone, it costs too much.

And here we sit reading on a forum waiting for the next response to a thread we follow.

If you want to skip all of that stuff, yeah, a CJ5 would do nicely.
Or even a TJ :)

Driving off road doesn’t void warranties. Scare tactics aren’t productive.
I recently found out most, if not all, insurance companies will also NOT honor any insurance claims if an accident happens off of a designated federal, state, or county roadway. Ie...forest service road accidents, for many insurance companies, will not be covered - maybe if you have a really cool agent. I know USAA told me recently they will absolutely not honor any claim on a FS road. What a scam.

In other news. ALL forest service fleet vehicles (or rather all USDA vehicles) are being mandated to have specific telematics installed. They tell us it is to analyze 'carbon' and to get more accurate utilization specs (miles/days used), even though we are still required to submit monthly usage reports. We all know what it's truly about, and it's nothing that they proclaim, but no surprise there.

No worries here - covered. I can be out in a farm field and have a boo-boo and be covered.

Most companies WILL cover off-roading as long as it's not competitive, no sanctioned competitions, races and so on.
Most trails are considered "roads" if they have a sign that says only vehicles legal/licensed for street use are allowed". I believe the Rubicon is a trail that's considered a road and thus, you are covered.
Basically "where ever I drive" I'm covered as long as it's not competition.

American family will. I asked directly. USAA used to be great for insurance. They’ve gotten too conservative about what they cover now.

They're my homeowners insurance in socal. They don't write new policies in my area anymore due to extreme fire risk. I can't ever shop or change coverage because there are basically no insurers left who would cover me I would have to go to the state system which is far more expensive. USAA continues to renew me only because I've had the policy since 2005.

I get it. We’re in the mountains of Colorado. We would switch our homeowners, but the next carrier would make us cut down all the trees for fire prevention.

I had a 2023 Camaro ZL1, if you did not opt out of GMs version of the system it would track all of your events... speed, braking, cornering, location, time, everything.

The really bad thing is it was uploaded to the company that provides information to insurance companies.

I've been told I'm covered with Auto owners.
