Will be starting some wiring projects coming up soon. Is this still a correct method of disconnecting the battery to avoid and issues? Pulled it off JL forums.

Thanks in advance!

Disconnect the ESS cable from the battery negative terminal to remove the ESS battery from the circuit, and then remove the assembly from the battery negative post. This should kill all the power to the vehicle. Confirm with a meter or test light by checking from battery positive to frame ground and from ESS battery positive terminal (edge of fuse box) to frame ground.

Pepe, thanks for the above. Just so I am clear, referring to picture I posted above, you are saying in item #3 which is negative connection on main battery to undo that and separate all wires.

That‘s it ?

@Mr Bill
I may not be reading your post right.. but...

You must, for total 12v power kill, separate all the cables that you remove from the Main's, Neg. terminal.

Disconnect 12V Power.JPG
Disconnect the ESS battery negative cable from the bundle attached to the main battery negative terminal. Then disconnect the assembly attached to the main battery negative terminal. One of the wires is a frame ground. If the ESS negative cable is not separated from the negative post assembly, it still has a path to the frame and continues to power the truck. It is not necessary to separately disconnect all the cables. The mistake many make is just disconnecting the assemblies from both of the main battery posts and thinking all the power is cut. Confirming with a meter or test light ensures the power is off.

@AZCooWhip

Wording issues in this thread, seem to have confused this disco all/total 12v thing..

Here, this .png will make it clearer. Download this .png , and view on your computer.. You can click on magnifying glass and then you will be given a slider at the top of the image that will make the image larger/smaller, so easier to view.

One last question. On light wiring harnesses with an included switch yet you are hooking to Jeep factory AuX switches, what does everyone do with all that extra wiring?

in pic below with Rigid SAE Ds I’m specifically looking at the thick black set of wire for the switch. Don’t need it. All I need is the harness to run to each fog, the power I will run to AUX and ground will run to battery.

Hide it The rest?

Mechanically I am golden, it’s the electrical stuff that drives me nuts.

Stumbled across this post and I'm going to be leaving my Jeep parked fr a couple of weeks and want to disconnect the battery so it doesn't drain. Did this work? I know this is an old post but hoping to find an answer. Thanks

Disconnect both cables from the negative post of the Main Battery. Don't let them touch anything in the engine bay (I put a plastic bottle over the end of each cable). This will turn off the power to the truck.

Does your above recommendation disconect the 'baby' battery? Also no need to disconnect the two at the 'body' of the Jeep? Thanks for the input

There are two cables connected to the top of the IBS on the Main Battery negative post. One is the negative cable from the Aux Battery, the other is the cable connected to the chassis. Just disconnecting the cable from the frame should kill the power, but it is much easier to just remove the two from the top of the IBS.

This is what I was looking for. Thank you for the input :)
