if you run it with your finger there is no oily film but it does look like some residue. Any thoughts? 27,000 miles on my 2020. It has been regeared.
im thinking Pinion seals are going out?

Likely a bad pnion seal. Maybe not seated properly on instal with the new gears. Had a similar issue after a regear and the installer blamed a bad batch of seals from the gear vendor. Either way it was fixed on their dime.

Let’s hope for the same result.

Weepage. You're ok for now. Keep an eye on it. If you see drips. It needs replaced. I've seen oem's look like that for thousands of miles. No drips.

I’ve got a 22 Rubicon with 18,000 miles and noticed last week that mine looks the same way. Even shows a little seepage around the fill plug. Thing is, my differential has never had any work performed on it and no lift so I too was wondering if this was normal. Guess I should take it to the dealer?

You can try, but I believe the general policy is that it's not a leak until it drips.

From my experience weeping like that on the housing (no dripping) is from gear lube getting around the seating surfaces of the seal shell, not from the lip on the pinion shaft.Replacing the seal, but putting RTV on the seating surface will stop it.
