2025 Gladiator Mojave X

When I bought the Overland, I really wanted a Mojave, but couldn’t justify the extra cost In my mind.

When I decided to get a new vehicle a couple of months ago, since I was happy with the Gladiator, I brought my wife along and of course, she liked the color of a Mojave X they had on the lot

Same dealer I bought the Overland from.

Best net price was more than I was comfortable with. Sales manager said I was really a Sport level buyer and should adjust my thinking. I left.

Went online as soon as I got home, found the exact same model, same color, same options, at a dealer 30 miles away. Called them up, told them my trade, negotiated price over the phone over a couple of calls. Subject to them looking at my trade, agreed a deal.

Drove over that same day, did the deal, went home in the new Mojave X.

$13,000 less OTD, than my neighborhood dealer, where I bought my previous Gladiator.

Sales Manager called me back the next day, trying to get me in to look at a Sport. While of course, there is nothing wrong with a Sport, I told him I already had possession of my new Mojave X, so uh, no.

Incentives? Dunno. I do know I’ll never go into my neighborhood dealer again.

2024 was a model change over year for the Tacoma and Ranger. There was limited supply last year padding those high year to date numbers.
True. The numbers in parentheses shouldn't be taken out of context. But nobody reads footnotes.

One might expect the limited supply of competing models to have increased Gladiator's market share in the midsize pickup segment. It did not.

Jeep is clinging to 8% market share with the Gladiator. They've lost pricing power and I doubt it makes financial sense to hang on.

Meanwhile, Tacoma is on a pace to shatter its previous North America sales record.

I have said it before in other threads when sales numbers come up that the Gladiator has more in common with the Honda Ridgeline in that they serve niche markets on opposite ends of the truck market and never were intended to be sales leaders or large conquest sales. If anything, it saps more from the Wrangler customer market than the other trucks in the mid size market.

At launch in late 2018, then FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne had said the Gladiator was always intended to be upmarket niche vehicle and only initially planned a 75K per year manufacturing capacity due to the limited 2nd line space at the Toledo factory. IMHO, those goals are what they are striving for and not some unrealistic expectation of ever having Tacoma numbers.

The Gladiator will continue out this platform manufacturing run so long as the JL it gleams most of it's parts and engineer from is in production. Next gen gladiator though is up in the air what that will be if at all.

Fire sales? the prices are stupid.
Yeah prices are stupid.

Here in Maryland as soon as '25s hit the lot they were marking them down 10-15k out the gate

Jeep's management would not have slashed prices if they were happy selling 42,000 Gladiators per year in the US as they did in 2024.

Even with big discounts they will be lucky to hit 50,000 this year. There's no way they're breaking even on volume.

As this is based on both the Ram and the Wrangler, there's not a lot invested in development costs to recoup.
It's a niche vehicle and trying to compare it to other mid-size trucks as far as sales will never work. But it doesn't matter a lot to FCA since it cost so little to come up with the JT. Same plant, so many of the same parts, little to recoup.

People can armchair quarterback this to death - but as none are involved with the auto industry in a capacity where it counts................

There's no need to make shit up. Just look at the numbers from STLA.

2024 was a disaster. Unit sales decreased 25%. Average selling price fell by over $1000. Operating income fell from over $7k per unit to less than $2k.

The downward trend is continuing in 2025.

The price cuts are not boosting sales enough to pay for themselves. Selling 25% more at 20% less loses money if your marginal cost per unit is greater than zero. No magical thinking can change that.

In other news, Stellantis NV’s Italian car production cratered by a third in the first half:

Those Tacoma #s are crazy, I didn't realize they would still be almost half the market with the new higher prices.

Nissan needs to have a fire sale, the best quote I could get was about 5k off a new base 4x4 crew cab, msrp 37k sale before taxes 32k
