New to the forum and unsure of how to post a question. Why does Jeep not allow the lockers on the Rubicon to lock in high range? If someone could redirect the question it would be very helpful. Thank you for any response.

Many of you are current/former Jeep owners. Any truth to the rumors of poor reliability in Jeeps? I've always heard they are horribly unreliable and general money pits (repair not mods) but I don't think I've ever heard it from an actual jeep person. Over 10 years I would probably put about 50k max on a vehicle and would hope to not have anything more than normal maintenance unless it was something I broke. Is that realistic?

In searching the web I came across the likes of this over and over:

Anyone who buys a Jeep Wrangler should know what they’re getting into. Sure, it delivers a timeless look and ability to charge off-road in most conditions. But it scores poorly on reliability in just about every survey. You’ll deal with excessive wind noise, rattles, squeaks, and other irritations, especially during highway travel. In the J.D. Power dependability study for 2017, owners called out these and other ride issues.

That's not dependability or reliability at all in my book. That's buying the wrong vehicle. The infotainment system being glitchy or a mystery rattle isn't a concern for me. Having to replace the transmission or engine at 50k miles is more the type of concern I have.

I have read over the steering, AC and the the few other issues posted here.
The Gladiator is my 8th Jeep. All I am can say is that I have had very little problems with any of them...especially the last three (JL,JK, JT).

It's dangerous and will break stuff. With locker engaged it's hard to turn as it is, at speed this can be a bigger issue leading to extremely poor handling. Also in 4 high speeds tend to be faster so the difference in wheel speed will need to be greater going around any turn Especially the front. So unless you are on solid ice or soft desert sand, you'll likely break the diff.
Plus somebody who has no idea how it works would assume that its the best for bad weather and run fron/rear locked in 4 high on a slightly wet road and tear every thing up.
A rear only wouldn't be as bad. But still not great on any pavement.

So this is our first Jeep, we came from Toytota our whole life. First I have to say, My toyota Tacoma / 4Runner has never left me on the trail or gotten stuck either! I have always been the person people call to come save their butts :)

OK lets talk about our JT.

5500 miles on it now, Drive over from AZ to Cali, Rear diff locker decides to turn on at 80MPH.. Needless to say, something is wrong with it, so we took it to the dealer, guess what, new rear diff, oh and guess what, part is on back order :)

So now, Today, we have plans to meet Lite Brite and Wheel the Rubicon Trail with them tomorrow, so do we chance it or do it wait 7 weeks for a back order part from jeep and then do the trail later?

Well, truck is at the dealer still, we find out in the next hour if its going to work enough for the run.....

In my book, this isn't a good start...

Is it actually locking up or is it a gremlin indicating it’s locked up? Is it transient?

And during their tenure they went to the cheapest manufacturer of parts to increase the bottom line "making the sale easier" and destroyed what little product quality image that was left of Chrysler Corp...
If you say so. I am sure Daimler left it a turn key operation to run.

Yea. This isn't my first JEEP, I have owned 4. I have no intention on using the lockers on dry pavement. I will be driving regularly on ice covered roads not to mention deep snow. I am a paramedic and expected to be at work regardless of weather. Has anyone used any of the tuners to engage their Rubicon lockers in high range?

I have a tazer and can use lockers whenever I want. It will even let me lock the rear when in two wheel drive.

I'd say the contrary. I've owned Jeep, Chevy, Ford, Lexus, Nissan, VW, BMW...The list goes on. Jeep takes on the highest percentage manufacturer of vehicles I've owned and for great reason. Not a SINGLE one of the Jeeps has left me stranded on the side of the road with exception of 1) a XJ whose alternator burnt out because I got mud into it and fried it and 2) a YJ that I ran out of gas in. I have had exceptional experiences with the Jeep brand over the years and both of my parents have owned a variety without a single issue. Its reliability is a factor in my decision to purchase my JT.

If someone attests a rattle in a vehicle that, effectively, its entire body can be intentionally detached to be unreliable...I think you're looking in the wrong segment to purchase.
Jeep Wranglers get a bad name from Soccer moms buying them thinking they are kool finding out there nothing like there Subaru or Toyota. Wranglers ride rough, have load road noise and the soft top leaks into the cab when it’s raining, so the said problems the Soccer moms give bad reviews and comments. I’m on my forth Jeep that is a Launch Addition Gladiator and love It, love the option to remove top and doors, and would not drive anything else.

I am on my 8th Jeep vehicle in a row and I have not had the experience the item you quoted seems to indicate. As with any vehicle things will wear out, and my Jeeps have been no exception, but they have not been “unreliable” by any stretch of the imagination.

The 4 door JK Rubicon I traded in on my current Gladiator was a 2012 model and had 153,000 miles at trade-in. I wore out some of the front steering components with a lift and bigger tires, but even that wasn’t till about 120,00 miles in.

My current Gladiator Rubicon has right at 17,000 miles, and I’ve been on a road trip with it since the the day after I picked it up on June 17th, and there have been zero issues so far. Three oil changes and tire rotations, and a new bug deflector, and that’s it so far. Well, and the one rock chip I got in the windshield while on the ALCAN Highway in Canada, but that’s it!

Oh I'm definitely following you. The fact that you haven't had any issues yet is definitely a strong point in my book. Jeep should be sponsoring your trip.
