Kudos to the folks at @Urban Jeep Outfitters for not only a great product with their tailgate badging kit…which btw I chose because the “I” lines up with the backup cam, but for their customer service as well. I had one piece that either didn’t have adhesive, or more likely, peeled it off unknowingly. They were friendly and quick to send me a replacement and I’m super happy with the results!

I ordered a set of tailgate and fender letters from Luxury Details in Southborough, MA (same as @TheBostonGladiator used on his truck), which arrived about a week ago. This weekend I was finally able to install the tailgate letters. Matt from Luxury Details provided a template which made installation a whole lot easier, although I did run through a couple of mounting options before choosing what you see in the photos.

The notch in the bottom of the template was cut by me to allow it to be test-fit around the backup camera's housing. Doing so made the lettering more centered on the tailgate vertically, but the original emblem locator-pin hole on the left wasn't quite covered all the way in the serif of the "J". The right - elongated - hole also wasn't quite all the way covered by the "p", and it shifted everything just slightly off of center. To make that "lowered" layout work, it appears you would need to widen the spaces out of the letters just a bit - which would mean discarding the template altogether. The left hole could then fall within the long vertical leg of the "J", and the right - elongated - hole could fall within the bottom leg of the second "e". That would put the letters about 1.5" or more lower than where they are now.

The layout shown is about the only way to use the template and still cover the tailgate holes completely. It's only about 1/8" higher than the stock lettering, as best as I can tell, and it's fine by me.

This was the look I was aiming for, from the J6 Concept truck of a few years ago. Pretty close, in my book.

Cost depends on what finish you choose. They quoted Gloss Black at $250, and Matte Black (SEM Trim Black, which is what I chose) at $300... plus shipping. That's for two sets of fender letters and one tailgate set - including 3 templates.

Are they machined out of palladium? Seems pretty pricey for some plastic printed stuff IMO.

The cost was well worth it to me based on what I found (or rather, didn't find) after a year of searching. That's only my opinion.

I am disappointed the tailgate Jeep badge is essentially a sticker (IMO it should have been embossed into the metal). Peeling it off should be simple enough but does anyone have creative ideas for a good looking mod? Just leave it plain? Live with the sticker?
I leave my Jeep a carport. The big Jeep letters were just too much advertising that a new Jeep was in there. Because the letters have two holes behind I bought some Gladiator helmets and smaller Jeep lettering and "quieted down" the tailgate yet looking a bit customized. I prefer the less visible than the gigantic "Gladiator" stickers that take the entire tailgate. Not my style. Look forward to getting flush tail lights instead of the big ears.

Where did you get the rims for your Gladiator? That is exactly what I have been looking for. Your Jeep looks so gorgeous!
