My 9100R is on order from AEV. This is an expensive snorkel. How does this thing sound driving down the highway with the windows up? I'm pleasantly surprised how tolerable 37" mud terrains are with my Sound Assassin floor liners and the insulated hard top, but a constant vacuum cleaner sound may get a wee bit grating on long trips.

They’re doing factory builds with the diesel snorkel, definitely don’t think they’re discontinuing anything any time soon. These builds are completely warrantied through the dealerships too.
And with the ram scoop. Interesting.

I forget they have such a close working relationship with Jeep. Makes me wonder if they could just work with them to open up the acceptable parameters for the intake pressure in the PCM. Install the snorkel. Throws a code? A little beepboop action at the dealership and all good. I don't know if that's a possibility on the regulation/testing side of things, but an interesting thought.

I've got a highway drive this evening, I'll try to pay attention, but I'd say I don't notice it cruising above 45 mph or so, unless I'm changing throttle or on shifts. It's probably audible all the way up at highway speed if you stomp on it. I'm also on 37" MTs with a sound deadened floor/top.

The scoop facing backwards is the loudest configuration, and scoop forward is the quietest I think. Sy-Klone somewhere in the middle.

That’s very interesting. So if I’m bothered by the Sy-Klone, the ram isn’t a better alternative. But it doesn’t sound like it bothers you, so I don’t think it’s going to be an issue.

I ordered mine from AEV. I couldn’t find it cheaper elsewhere. $219 I believe. They sent me a 9100r 4inch.
Correct, and correct. Same unit.

Unrelated, but I've seen people mention how they wouldn't want a weak plastic snorkel hanging off their vehicle. It certainly doesn't feel weak. I measured the walls at 5.15mm thick.

Yeah, I had an ARB snorkel on my TJ and I have a WaterPort hanging off the side of my JTRD. They’re made from the same heavy roto or blow molded polyethylene. AEV also says it’s cross-linked, meaning the polymers are bonded at the molecular level. It’s makes it tougher (less brittle or crack prone) and a bit softer, which is what you want. Whitewater kayaks are made of the same stuff and it’s all basically indestructible. I had gashes and scratches in my ARB snorkel from sliding past rock walls, but never had issues with it.

People will tear the fender flares off their Jeep or destroy the quarter panel before they damage the snorkel. Obviously anyone should take care not to get things hung up on it because you could damage the hood opening or possibly pull the bolts out of the windshield mount, but the snorkel itself will probably survive just about anything.

Some of this a macho bias towards “good ol metal” <insert Tim Allen man grunt>. Metal is appropriate for lots of things, but it’s heavy, corrodes, is chemically reactive, dents, cracks, etc. We build composite jumbo jets and glue bridges together now. Many small arms are polymer, unbreakable trolling motor shafts are composite, they make wheels out of carbon fiber. More and more structural components of war ships are composites and plastics and not to save money.

You couldn’t give me a metal snorkel, looking like some old ass Land Rover held together with bailing wire and rusting it’s way across Kenya ?

Now that janky plastic oil pan on the Bronco. That’s a different story. ?

I've been driving around with the scoop again to test the CCV insert theory. It took longer to throw a code, but it does still eventually. Seems like the only easy option is the pre-filter, it really is just the ram effect itself and not the location of the CCV. It still makes we wonder if a larger CCV tube higher up the intake could fix the code, but since the pre-filter is working fine for me as is, I'm not going to pursue it any further.

So far so good. Drove it on the freeway for about 2 hours at 70-80mph without issue. The quality and fitment are unmatched
I saw the posts on Instagram, looks good!
