It is like any job, many do not care and just going through the motions. You wonder how the painter could let it go out the door like that.
$5,500 for that???? Please tell me you are not paying that.... This is 'warranty' correct?I went and picked it up Tuesday. I needed to take the truck since I didn't have a rental anymore. I immediately noticed the paint mismatch and showed the body shop manager. He agreed to repaint the mismatched area. I have to wait until they get their loaner back since I doubt Jeep will approve another rental for me. I didn't notice the interior issues and the hinge bolts until yesterday when I got a chance to look over the entire truck. It will not leave the dealership again until it 100% corrected and I'm satisfied. That's $5500.00 dollars worth of repairs you are seeing.
Unfortunately, ever since the 2010'ish era - they have all become throwaway cars. It's sad. So much emphasis is put into design/engineering and very little if any support given to dealerships to properly train technicians. Then terrible economics on top of that. It's really no surprise. And part of the reason I picked up an old LJ. Push comes to shove, I will let the gladiator go way before the TJ or LJ just because of the simplicity and reliability factor. That and, nobody seems to be able to work on vehicles anymore. They are just too complicated, and too crammed. I guess a person has to make a decision early on before spending any aftermarket monies on something - either plan to keep it for a long time knowing things are going to go bad at your expense, or do nothing more than stock, and either tow a trailer or tent it like the 80's. The sad thing is so many dealers, and Jeep, are finding ways to deny warranties that should be valid, and much of that happens after a person dumps so much money into their vehicle to suit their wants/needs, the a person is basically stuck. Either let it go and loose that tens of thousands of bucks, or be lame and have nothing more than a stock truck which kinda defeats the purpose of the whole thing in the first place. What a shame cause there are still some fantastic dealers and shops out there. The bad ones make them all look bad though.hell no, they can keep it. I'd just let it go man and get a different one.
I feel like these days, and in the coming years, it will be more and more often that businesses prove themselves to be unreliable and more and more often that people will have to do things themselves to do it right. Sadly. That's terrible... I'm starting to get a bit of corrosion on the edge of my hood and I'm debating if I even want to deal with it. I feel like they're going to mangle it.
Yeah there’s a whole chain of issues these days. What crazy is that to my generation the JT and JL is our LJ. 2010 and beyond is what I grew up on and understand quite well. And will continue to understand even better as I age. The difference being my generation has less total gear heads so to speak. But I plan to be like my grand dad. Have a rare 40 year old classic cus I had it since my 20s. But yeah I tell most to move on unless it’s obvious they are invested in it and of a like mindset. Too many wasted breaths about fix something for the sake of it. Most are angrier that they have been wronged rather than what’s actually been done. They want someone to take responsibility and pay up.Unfortunately, ever since the 2010'ish era - they have all become throwaway cars. It's sad. Because they are sealed on with paint, it's virtually impossible to remove the door hinge bolts for the first time without some damage. I buy a set of new bolts for the body shop to paint with the rest of the body parts for me to install later. You can install the new bolts with minimal damage to the paint.More qualitywork. Yep that's rust on the last pic.
I am a long time jeeper…. And I fully support this message. At $70k out the door my wife is constantly throwing around the comments that her girlfriends are driving Porsches with way less issues for not much more. Starting to think she’s going to win this one and get a used Cayenne Coupe. I’ll fast track a 2.8 LJ. Win win.Let's face it. Anything that is done through a dealership is an absolute disaster. I'm convinced @JeepCares and Jeep in general just does not care. The factory warranty extension is garbage. They fight you on everything. They lie. They have service advisors that treat you like their worst enemy. You take it in to get something warrantied and it sits there for a week before it even gets look at. I bought the extended warranty but it is worth it to me to go outside the system and just pay for something out of pocket. And the worst thing is that corporate backs the dealerships. As a buyer/owner we have NO representation whatsoever when there is a dispute with a warranty issue because every single time you try to get something warrantied they point out some unrelated mod you did and try to tell you they won't warranty it because of that mod. I love my JT and it is a great vehicle but I gotta say if it ever gets to the point where I need a new truck I WILL NEVER BUY brand new from Jeep ever again. The customer service at any level is that horrible.
For sure. I didn't expect my truck to look worse than when it went in.Corrosion is better than Jeep dealer work.
Before I took it for repair, I was thinking about trading it on something else. When I got my trade offer it was way low and I asked why. They said they are checking any Wrangler and Gladiator for paint issues and are either lowballing the trade or flat out refusing any vehicle that shows any paint problems.hell no, they can keep it. I'd just let it go man and get a different one.
Wow that's garbage. if that is the case then I would be expecting someone somewhere to file a class action lawsuit, especially since this paint stuff was pretty well known early on.Before I took it for repair, I was thinking about trading it on something else. Remember you only get a one time event on warranty paint claims from theses people, what a load of crap, because the OEM won’t address their lack ability to paint these things since 1941.Sorry you are going thru that. Had similar issue when I had paint repair on my 2020 hood. The paint didn’t match, there were swirls of black dust in it, and the Rubicon decal was poorly applied (had bubbles in it etc). To their credit, the dealer took it back and redid it and made it right.
My hinges are having the issue now too. Dreading brining it in because of the first experience and your similar one. I question if “the cure is worse than the disease”. Mismatched doors are more noticeable than a little bubbling on the hinge (unless the paint fully pops off). The hassle of not having a car for an extended period and then possibly doubling that if it needs done a second time sucks.
What I don’t get is why don’t the body shops QC their work before presenting to the customer? They have to know it looks bad yet they make you feel like you are the one being picky rejecting their shoddy workmanship.
