Justifying Winch Setup For Both Rigs

So this is Gladiator and 4Runner related: With the Badlands 12k deal today I’m thinking about picking up the 12k for my Gladiator and moving my current 9K Warn to my wife’s 4Runner. We wheel both rigs together because she gets some vertigo type stuff if she ain’t at the wheel. In my head it makes sense that the larger vehicle gets the larger winch as a more stable platform and the 4Runner being smaller gets the smaller winch to kind of be used as a “stabilizer” type winch if needed. The 12k would be getting most the most use, I believe, since it’s easier to replace and a bit cheaper even if not under warranty.

Here’s the question: Does this arrangement make sense or am I just wanting cool new stuff for the rig?

You are just wanting cool new stuff that really cheap and asking us to approve it. Sounds line a solid plan, or if you are happy with the 9,000 lb. so far get her a light weight winch and a new bumper for her truck for Christmas that is the real plan!
Getting new stuff for my truck and putting my old used stuff on wife’s Wrangler would never go well…..Jack
PS: I run a 9,000 on my Glady and it has worked fine.

Yeah your just wanting new stuff.Remember happy wife makes happy life. But you can probably convince her that your heavier rig needs an beefy winch.

This arrangement makes sense to me. Can’t guess about your budget but the HF Badlands 12k on sale is a good deal for a solid winch

What is the weight difference and how will it affect ride and and rake do you have wire or synthetic rope if your happy with your jeep leave it alone buy a new winch for the for her based on that vehicle weight a 9000 lb winch and steel bumper add weight affects rake and ride.

Both are synthetic which is the only kind I will run. I’ve seen bad things happen with wire cables. Not overly concerned with weight at the moment as we’ll both be doing suspension replacements or tweaks as we go. I’m not happy with the lift I have and I’m not even really sure what she has on hers because I’m Toyota knowledge deficient. We’ll see how everything goes and adjust fire from there. I just know I want both of us to have a winch on our vehicles. We wheel together but not with a group so it’s more of a safety issue than a “cool guy” thing.
