You obviously aren't too familiar with real strenuous physical activity in the cold. There is no way my key fob brick is going to be flopping around in a pocket - jacket or whatever - during a 2+ hour aggressive mountain bike ride. Plus, it needs to be in a place that will keep it safe in the event of a crash. But something tells me you have never crashed a mountain bike while carrying your fob. :giggle:
I usually ride 2+ hours daily with a pixel fold in my pocket and a key fob or mini tool in the other. Lots of hard crashes without issues.

The insane thing is your key actually still is using the RKE system, it still has a board on the inside that transmits codes to the RF Hub to allow you to start the car. It just has no buttons, but one with buttons would actually work to start it and could potentially remote start it if you can get past the whole doors aren't reporting if they are locked problem. You could probably even add power locks if you wanna take the time to wire them into the BCM.

Point being even without any buttons its still the same 433.92Mghz transmitter communicating with the same RF Hub :P
That's why we use our fob with the dead battery when the truck goes in for service work.

I have one issue with the fob. Sometimes it works (passive entry) when I grab the door handle and sometimes it doesn’t.
When it doesn’t work I can walk up a little later and it works fine?
All the buttons work fine every time though.

Right? It should float too! You know in case you get in deep water you can find your Jeep.

I have to reach toward the door handle, not touch it reach toward it so the sensor can put two and two together. It might sense the fob is there but then, I believe, needs to sense someone reaching for it. I've had it do that once or twice... I had my hands full and my wife on the other side couldn't open it. I had to put my stuff down...

My issue with the key fob is when it threatens to castrate me as I sit down because the darn button was pushed and the actual key popped out like a switchblade.

I found a key fob cover that is fantastic. the switchblade key hasn't come out unintentionally since I got it. Works great and doesn't seem to interfere with the passive entry... Cheap, now over a year old still almost looks new. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092CPCV3C?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

Don't grab it - you'll likely lock it as it unlocks.
Only put fingers behind the handle and pull with fingers. Don't grab or grasp the handle.

Yes. It just seems to not sense my key sometimes. Once I was sitting in the drivers seat and it said it didn’t detect a key. I held it up to the start button and pushed the start button to start the truck. I have new batteries arriving today for my fobs. My truck is a 2024 bought in 2025….

That is a consideration
and whether equipped
with a passive entry system or not
there are good reasons to have the key
separate from the fob

and I recommend this sturdy little fob.
AJT Design Fob Review
@Mad Mac

Today I was in contact with Adam Truckey the guy that owns AJT Designs.. He has a new model fob offering for the JL and JT.

The new version fob is Injection Fob IF029 (V2 Wrangler JL / Gladiator JT) Buttons on it on way different...

Link to new fob offering:
https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/colle...n-fob-if029-v2-wrangler-jl-gladiator-jt-black

He also mentioned a couple of hints that may just make your battery placement in your fob a tad easier next time. Shows you how adjust the battery retainer spring and also tells you to avoid a certain shape battery...

At the bottom of the page I link to, see the notes there... He / Adam also did a new video that can be found there also.

https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/colle...n-fob-if029-v2-wrangler-jl-gladiator-jt-black

I have one of the new model, AJT Design fobs on the way to me. Once I get it, I will set it up and post a couple of pics of it in this thread..

The Key fob with the exposed button to flip the key out./open is a major pain in the pocket.. Are you frustrated with the design of this key fob?
What cover have you purchased to limit or prohibit the opening of the Key without your input? BTW, it was modified design (at least for the 2023) The 2021 was worse.
I fixed that with a leather case/ cover from Gibson holster it is a great product
