Hello all, just purchased a brand new 2025 rubicon. It currently has 480 miles on it and it seems like it has developed what sounds like a lifter tick already. Oil level is good and everything else appears to be in good working order. Not getting any check engine codes either. Attached is a video of the sound. It begins when the engine is cranked and never goes away while driving. Just trying to get an opinion before I try to haggle with the dealership.
Thanks

That sure doesn’t sound like my Jeep! Where in NC are you? I may be local.

Retired. Beach bum.
That could be a loud fuel injector. If you have access to a type stethoscope with a pinpoint probe, instead of pad that might help by placing on each injector. That’s what a competent dealer technician would probably use.

500 miles and to have to take this on… that’s insane. We were told this crap was managed in the PUG transition. Are these engines just inherently louder with lighter oils and plastic manifolds? It’s not throwing codes right?

I would definitely take it to the dealer, if for nothing else but to start a paper trail.

That is pretty obnoxious for even a lifter tick. My vote is exhaust or EGR valve leak.

Audio on the Interweb sucks, but I vote for an exhaust leak.
Yeah, the audio isn't great at all, but if I listen REALLY close and keep replaying it, I pretty much hear TWO sounds - one deeper than the other.

Since these don't have exhaust manifolds, a tick isn't typically an exhaust "system" leak but could be EGR (sounds like a single cylinder type of sound, rather than multiples)

I hear a higher pitched tick, then a lower sound that's more like a "knock" to me.

Jamesville.. about and hour west of the OBX
I’m currently near Asheville so we’re pretty far from each other.

Get a long screwdriver. I mean long. Place the blade at various locations, being sure to have a solid perch. Then, in each instance, put your ear to the top of the screwdriver. You can hear whatever is going on near the blade. You just might pinpoint the source.

Pretty low milage, I had a bearing go out at 20k miles, they just put a new engine in, all under warranty. I would take to the dealer, they need to fix whatever that is.

In this video I am under my Jeep JKU and right up in the engine area so its pretty loud.

In another thread where the OP had a ticking noise, I posted that it sounded very similar to what I had, but many users hear something different. So lets hope its not, especially a 2025 at only 480 miles, because that dealership 'rocker arm lifters and camshaft' fix was not cheap. The good thing is, apparently the 2025 engine is built differently and should not encounter the infamous tick so this could something else. Bring it back and keep us posted - good luck!

I'd love to know what's "different" about the 2025...........

A JK has a different 3.6 - so a tick would be the same resulting repair (cam and followers) but different cause since they don't have a high lift dual-mode follower and a cam with multiple profiles per cylinder.

Honestly I have no idea what is the difference, that info came from another user. I'll try and look for that users response and post it here...give me a sec, I just logged into work lol
