Ok, maybe I'm an outlier, but I'm focused on the North American market. Let's be realistic, you can't easily import most cars to the US because of regulations, so what's selling well in Indochina is mostly irrelevant.
True, but you also have to account for the tactics us auto sellers pull compared to what they do in the rest of the world.

In the US, auto companies specifically do these things to reduce the number of manual sales and give an artificial reason for people not to buy them as well as so the company can complain they arent selling and drop them as an option. They have been known to do this with diesel options in similar ways as well.

Only offer a manual that requires significantly cutting back the capability of a vehicle even if manual trans options exist that don't have these limitations and fit perfectly

Only offer the manual in the lowest tier most undesirable version. Base model smallest engine cheapest interior etc

Continue to make stupid decisions and utilize high failure rate parts since the can call them a wear item and not cover under warranty. For example dual mass flywheels

That was the straw that made me have to have it,and that said today might be the day,if my dealer step's up,he told me Friday that she was in Phoenix,I said so I'll have her Monday, his reply was we're in the home stretch thanks for your patience, it's just short of 6 months and 3 hours away so not a good answer, the ol lady says they might surprise me, clutch foot get ready

Wow. Congratulations, man. I hope you get the opportunity to knock some dollars off it.

True, but...
Sorry, that's too far into conspiracy theory territory for me. I think it's just the vast majority of north American drivers don't want to dick around with constant manual gearshifting when an auto is more convenient.

I learned to drive a manual at a very young age. I drove one, at work, almost every day until I went to college. During that time, my personal cars were all automatics. My first two trucks, after college, were both manuals. The third, and every one since, has been an automatic. I no longer have any desire to drive a manual, and they are just not practical in the traffic around here. I think that many people, who have a choice, don't want the additional hassle of a manual, especially in heavy traffic environments.

Didn't mean to sound like I was challenging you. I'm more lamenting the demise of MTs in the U.S. And there is still a strong market for manuals in Europe.

That is so true and common of most manufacturers (selling in/to the U.S.) if and when a manual version is even offered. I assume their thinking is that only buyers with limited funds would settle for a manual, so why offer it in higher trims. That has prevented me from considering many cars out there. I gave up on getting a manual truck and bought my Ram in 2014. If there are more like me out there -- who prefer a stick along with nicer trim and higher tech -- those manufacturers will never know.

Kudos to Jeep for being different. When I learned I could get a stick in a top-of-the line truck, I was sold. And I wasn't even in the market for a new truck.

I got my build sheet today and chat sez my truck is finished. (I'm waiting for the actual build status code and I'm guessing it still needs the bedliner done.) I believe the order went in on 1/2/20 as I gave my dealer a deposit on (edit)12/31 during Jeep's holiday shutdown. I'm surprised it's gotten this far already, considering the delays others have been experiencing.

I ordered mine on 1/7 and got the build sheet notice on 1/30. It’s in KZ status. I hope it has enough pocket money for a train ticket soon.

Sadly, no. A couple weeks ago the dealer said a feb 22nd delivery date. I hope I don’t have to wait 3 more weeks.

oh and I asked about the delay with manual and 8.4. I was told there was a constraint on that combination for Jeeps going into inventory but not on sold orders.

I'll be surprised if MTs are kept as an option going forward, especially once the diesel option lands (auto only).

Manuals are on their way out across the industry anyway. I read recentkyvthey account for <5% of new vehicles.
Completely agree. The only place manual transmissions are popular are on the fourms. in real life not so much. People can kick up all the dust they want but manual transmissions are dead and the sales numbers prove it. Companies are in business to make money if nobody’s buying manual transmissions they’re gonna stop. If everybody was buying manual transmissions they would be everywhere. it’s supply and demand, very simple.
