when quickly accelerating in gear before shifting, there is a sound: the best description of the sound is like a marble quickly rolling on a table

after shifting to next gear it stops. This sound doesn't come out until it reaches higher RPMs, usually its in 1-3 gear

i've heard this since I purchased the vehicle. Does anyone hear the same thing or know what this is?

Have you checked the fluid level and are sure it’s not missing a bunch of oil from the factory?

Can you record it?

I personally haven’t. But I’ve brought it for it’s regular check ups and oil changes for the past 2.5 years. They never indicated any issues with the vehicle at jeep

I wonder if turning off Hill Start Assist (and/or Traction Control) makes a difference? If it doesn't stop the noise at least you eliminated that from the equation. Look around for loose heat shields they can make weird noises.

The only reason I mentioned it was because my last vehicle’s gear oils were low and the levels were never checked during the PDI. I found out when I did a drain on all the diffs, trans case and transmission @16k kms and my transmission was down almost half, the rear diff was down 1 quart and the front diff was down .25 quart from the factory. The dealership and book suggested first change would have been at 60k kms so you can imagine how pissed I was to have driven 16k on low oil. Had I taken it in at that time to just have them do it, what were my chances they would have told me?

I know the exact sound you're referring to. Happens to me when I let out on the clutch going into the next gear. Got worse after the 35's.

Personally, I just think its a crappy clutch. I'll upgrade eventually.

In those audio clips it sounds like a rattling heat shield.

hmm.. the only thing is that it only does it in 2nd gear at high rpms and 3rd gear at high rpms

if it was a rattling shield wouldn't that happen any time?

I've only got ~3500 miles on mine, but my manual doesn't make any noises sounding like that. Definitely not normal to all of them.

I'd lean towards a heat shield rattling as well, vibrations/resonance can be weird things.

i initially thought that....it actually sounds like its coming from inside of the car. I literally thought there was a marble or a screw just sitting on the dashboard somewhere and rolling around. I was looking all over for things shifting and moving, but nothing. Then i noticed that its only during the acceleration in those gears

You need this! No, we all need this.
The best part:

A bit further are the Bluetooth sensors, no wires to touch hot items underneath as you drive.

Looking for the Bluetooth ones but I can see how valuable this set would be.

Edit:
The wires ones look like the way to go. High reviews. No one seems to like the Bluetooth set as it doesn’t work very well.
