If they weren't going to go full retro, I think the GW/W needed to have more callbacks to the original. Add 2 more doors to this rendering, and I think it works far better than new design.
The forward rake on the grill seems more pronounced, probably because of the height. And it seems there's slightly more of the fastback/slant to the rear hatch, compared to the more upright new model, recalling the original.
