If MT is making recommendations then there is a chart or data they are using... Like to see that chart or data.
Tire dissipate heat thru the side wall. Lower pressures create more side wall flex and in turn increase the internal tire pressure. Running too low a pressure will in turn damage the sidewall in time.

Its worth mentioning that the folks giving those reccomendations don't all seem to be on the same page. The last time this came up in the pizza cutter thread I relayed that I had also called and asked MT about my skinny 35s and they gave me different numbers. Then when talking to a MT quality control employee in person, that PSI reccomendation was different yet again. None of this is to say anyone is wrong, just that I don't know how much anyone should just blindly trust PSI reccomendations and not just do the tests themselves in a parking lot with some chalk.
They also told me chalk tests weren’t great for these tires, since some of it is supposed to be off the ground.

They’ve got a “calculator” they enter the data into. I’ve spoken to them multiple times on this subject. I’m three sets of their tires in and have no complaints. They’ve been quite accurate.

Well, the QA guy is probably not someone I'm going to put a lot of confidence in for technical information. For all you know he just checks to make sure people are signing their paperwork.

What size tire, and specific model? If these are 37x12.5x17lt Baja boss AT, they should not be run at 36psi. Not even close. 27psi cold is the recommendation for that specific tire. Different recommendations for other sizes. 30psi is the recommendation for 35x12.5x17. Where it’s over 40 for the pizza cutter 35’s @Mightytalldude runs.

When I called MT for the 37x12.5x17LT Baja Boss AT that I have on our 22 JTR the answer was 29 psi. That is what I run and the truck rides fine.

I suspect the reason for the different recommended pressures is the different OE tires. Their "calculator" doesn't input the GAWR for the front and rear axles, but rather the tire size and I think pressures from label on the door jam. My JTR has LT285/70R17C 116Q @ 37 psi.

Hello all, I purchased the above tires (4 + spare) in the 255/85/17 size in 2024, have put roughly 15k miles on them of very normal use (light offroading, no rock crawling). Have enjoyed the performance, noise, and driveability of these tires.. But starting roughly 1 month ago, i'm having some serious vertical tears only appear on my inner side wall. I've now had 2 tires fail, with another showing early symptoms of the above. I went back to Discount tire where I purchased, who contacted Mickey Thompson and they're unwilling to do anything other than use the Discount warranty i purchase. Posting pics of both tires, both have failed while driving and i honestly don't feel comfortable putting my family in this car anymore and getting on the highway as when they let go, the air comes out almost immediately and it's not fun...

Paying 2k for tires, and then being told i need to spend another $1500 now to replace is not a fun time.. anyone have experience with this? ty for any thoughts..

Call, email MT directly, with the pictures.

My son-in-law has them and we have beat the crap out of them and they, hell in fact I've never actually seen an offroad tire do that in 30 years of off-roading. Seen a lot of things, but not that.

But i would hardly say X psi is ok, any other is going to ruin the tire. If it's made for the load range, what PSI you run it at as long as within spec shouldn't tear the sides of the tire. Yeah might wear the tread differently middle vs sides, but that is a complete tire failure, that's scary stuff, like damn is the tire about to come apart?!?!?! I would be pissed and calling them daily about it.

They recommended 27psi for mine. My original psi was also 37 with the same size as your originals. But 27 and 29 are really close. Sometimes mine are higher or lower, and they ride great anywhere between 26 and 29. I can tell they’re high over 30 though. I do air up higher when towing.

I had 4 split while on vacation In October outside of New Orleans over two days. They had 50k on 37x12.5 17s and I was towing my travel trailer. Same style splits on the inside of every tire. 38 psi or so in all of them. Last year towed same trailer to Moab, wheeled and back with no problems. dumped them and now have nittos, due to the mileage never cared about a warranty call on them.

i will not recommend them nor will I really put them down, but concerning since others have had the same issue.

I joined this forum specifically for this thread. I just realized I am having the same exact issue on my 37x12.5R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT tires. Every single one is cracked, one tire to the point it won't hold air. I'm going to try warranty, but I'm thinking this is a saftey recall type of issue.

So update if anyone cares. They covered half a set of new tires. So I guess I will try them again. Im not 100% sure on them though. Amazing tire, but Im worried about longevity.
I care. That’s great. Glad they supported you. It definitely matters to me, as I’m on the third set from them.

As someone who worked in the auto industry, and is looking at buying a set of these for the foreseeable future, has MT corrected these issues yet?

Also, OP, since MT told you DT never contacted them, are you taking DT to small claims court for fraud and theft? You said they told you "MT won't cover it and to use our warranty, but it only cover up to $125/tire" when MT outted them for lying and stealing from you.

Discount Tire has for years been known to be shady, they tried this with me year ago on a FULL set of Michelins. Until I showed them the fine print and threatened both legal action and a news reporter stopping by for coverage, then they cooperated.

I am considering these tires for my Mojave. I have a set of their Baja Boss X stickies on my LJ that are great for crawling but that doesn't necessarily translate to their ATs. We need updates OP. :)

@CFIS , curious how many miles you had on the original set of tires?
