So, I'm new to Jeeps as a whole. Back when i couldn't afford anything I just wheeled old used Toyotas and built em out of FB marketplace second hand parts. Now I got a brand new jeep. Its a blast to wheel and is mind blowing what it can do stock. But as we all know, nothing is stock forever. With that as the theme, What was a mod you utterly regret doing and what was one that you will always do everytime you get a new rig?

i regret buying a rugged ridge full width HD bumper. nothing wrong with the bumper as it was solid and looked fantastic with 40" tires. due to my brain not having 3d axis expertise, i folded both ends of the bumper down the first time turning left and right while at full articulation. it looked like the mustache of a 70's porn star! i could drive forward but it hurt the tires something bad when backing up.
my best purchase was the harbor freight 12,000 lb winch. i pulled the mustache ends forward with it and a snatch block to a nearby tree. also buy a 4"-6" wide strap to minimize tree bark damage.
rugged ridge does make a narrow bumper that my modified bumper now resembles.

Bigger tires right out of the gate. They are only for looks really. Going from 33's to 35's give you 1 more inch of clearance. Steep price to pay for an extra inch of clearance. Wear out what you got then go with a bigger tire.

What to do... Well, thats loaded. Depends on what you are going to do with the rig. anywhere from a budget boost to an all out 2" lift. or cover the bed.

Mods i couldn't live without:
sunrider, lange originals coyote mirrors, tonneau

mods i wouldn't want to live without:
armorlite, apex autolynx, arb twin on-board, diode dynamics elite headlights, diode dynamics 3k fogs, katzkin leather, bolt hood lock, rokblokz

mods i could have done without but still enjoy:
35s, steel wheels, xr extension flares (though for the wheel offset and tire width I picked these are necessary), Loyo sequential turn signals, CJpony taillights

mods i would skip if i had it all to do over:
none

Spend your money slowly and mindfully and you wont have any regrets.

So how do these work when doors are off? Also I’m in a fairly muddy environment. How would these hold up do you think?

Mods I regret?

Mopar lift opened a can of worms on my JL: steering went to shit; the same dealer that installed the lift refused to do the steering box TSB two weeks later. MPG dropped to the low teens after I mounted 35s; had to regear; my dad had trouble getting in and out of the Jeep.

This time I am taking it easy with the JT.

I will play.
Not going to mention a winch because in my opinion all Jeeps need a winch.
Essential, on board air. I did a twin compressor ARB under passenger seat and use it all the time.
Not so much, aux lights. I hung some fairly expensive KC lights on the front bumper and rarely use them. They just aren't necessary with the LED light package.

My biggest mistake and regret was believing the 4x4 shop when they said a Rough Country lift would be all I needed for 37s. Sure it looked great and the tires fit but what a death trap. I’ve spent double what I spent lifting it just to make it drive straight and safe.

I wish I would have done more research before lifting it. I would have still gone 3.5 and 37s but would have used better components the FIRST TIME.
