Mopar Oil Filter from Walmart different model #?

Finished my 2 jeep wave free oil changes/tire rotations. The dealer I go to has been pretty good, but with how expensive things are getting, I want to start doing it myself.

I went to Walmart and saw that model # is 68191349AC, but the only thing I saw was the same numbers but instead of AC, it's WB. Is this the same thing? For some reason when I search the model #, some sites show that 68191349AC is not compatible but I've searched the forum here and that's the correct one. The box of 68191349WB shows part # MO-349 and I searched that is the correct part number. Kind of confused right now on conflicting info lol.

I do my own oil changes as well but I do buy the filters from my local Jeep dealer. No need to sweat compatability as I know they are the rights ones. Also, being only about $12 at the dealer, I'd pay that over free ones from Walmart.

It's weird, I called the dealership that I take my gladiator to for oil changes and tire rotations and they do great work and are helpful, the service guy said the AC version should be the only one I use and that the WB is showing up as "discontinued" on his system. I did see that thread and confused me even more since i do see a slight difference at the tip of the oil filter in the shape of the point, but some are saying its the same thing. I'm gonna return it and see if another place sells the AC version just to be sure.

I just buy them at Advance Auto parts around the corner. I have no idea what I pay or the model number. I just grab one and a 5 qt jug of Mobile One when it’s due. It always looks the same and fits so I’m good. I’d only notice if the oil filter was oddly expensive.

Advance Auto (here in Florida at least) has an offer that always seems available: Buy the 5 quart jug of whatever oil you want (Mobil 1, Pennzoil, Valvoline, etc.) for around $40 and you get an oil filter of your choice (of course I get the Mopar 349 which fits both my 2016 JKU and my new JT Rubicon. I get the 4 free oil changes (2 from dealer, 2 from Jeep Wave) but especially early on I am changing the oil quickly (i have about 2k miles on it so I want to get fresh oil into it). I don't want to use my free ones yet since they include a tire rotations which I would rather save for 5k or 6k miles.

I just did that for my girlfriend on her new Mazda. She gets free initial oil changes, but they didn’t want to do it till 6200 miles. I changed it at 1k and then we will take it in for its first dealer oil change at 6k. Thankfully, it’s almost as easy to change as my Gladiator.

I've seen that in power generators, auto parts and other things - same exact part from the same manufacturer, but if you buy it from Walmart it may have one number, from Lowe's a different number and so on.

That is very true in some industries. In fact, some retailers like the fact that they get uniquely coded part numbers to sell. Often, it may just be a suffix on the end of what is actually the part number. Having 12345AB is different than 12345BC. The first may be for distributor company 1 and the second for company 2, etc. The one thing this prevents, especially in the case of higher-priced products, is matching or beating a competitor's price. If the item numbers are not the same, the store may refuse to do the matching since it technically is a different item, at least from a part number standpoint. Also, the packaging may be slightly different between the 'AB' and 'BC' examples shown above, but again, it is the same underlying product.

It is the same UPC label number as the other AC suffix part number. If it was going to be a Walmart unique part number, they would also change the UPC label number as that is where Walmart would know any return was their sold item.

The AC is newest and recommended. The AB version had issues reported of the
filter medium being twisted when tightening oil filter.

Me too. Walmart doesn’t like lawsuits. They are not going to sell junk/fake car parts, or oil, especially under their label, and take that risk. That would be a layup for even the worst ambulance chasing lawyer.
