I have a 20 JT with 3.6 I was looking under it and it has 2 cats 2 mufflers plus what I assume is a resonator at end of exhaust systems. My question has anyone removed one of the mufflers or replaced both of them with a aftermarket muffler? I am not looking for loud or better sound ( I do not think the v6 I capable of a good tone) just wanting to let the Motor breathe better but not have obnoxious sound. Just an fyi our 21 4 d rubicon has two cats a resonanter and one muffler, it has 3.6 v6 e torque. Thanks for any input.

You can cut the pipe after the rear axle and ditch the suitcase resonator.

You may or may not get a drone from doing this. Different people have different opinions.

You are not going to open anything up to breathe better because the Cats are your highest restriction in the system.

Lots of people have cut out the suitcase resonator, some have also cut out the muffler and shortened it all up.

I originally just cut off the rear resonator because I was bored on a Sunday afternoon, and there really wasn’t much of a difference. I didn’t want it loud but I wanted to notice it when I got on it. I got rid of both resonators and replaced the muffler with an 18" Magnaflow, and it's perfect for me.

I don’t know where you live…. but…. You might want to check with your state laws before messing with your exhaust. Here in PA ….we get yearly vehicle & emissions inspections.

BEWARE .. Replaced the BIG muffler and the front resonator .. installed B2 Fabrication Moderate muffler and straight pipe from front connection.. Got a very annoying DRONE at 2K to 2.4K RPM.. Reinstalled the Front Resonator, kept the B2 Muffler and always kept the rear resonator; and NO More Drone. According to my Jeep Factory Technical Friend - multiple aftermarket systems and removal of resonators create a DRONE.

I ran the AWE trail for a while and then recently put my OE exhaust back on. When I removed it originally I cut the rear most resonator off to make it easier to pull out. I can confirm that the rear most resonator makes no discernable change in noise. Currently its cut just behind the rear axle.

So, dont waste any effort focusing on that if you want more noise.

AWE cat back Trail exhaust sounds great and I also used their loop delete kit.

Keep in mind that it's a Federal offense to make any changes to the factory exhaust system, as it's considered a unit from an emissions standpoint.

Just sayin'

You don’t have to tell me…….I’m all too aware of the laws. I live in Pennsylvania = strict emissions & inspection laws.

I thought that just applied to the cats and removing if they're functioning properly.

I installed a MBRP duel outlet full exhaust on my Gladiator . There is a bit of a drone at mild acceleration and then while cruising its gone and if you listen to music "soft or loud" while you drive you will not notice it as much . It does have a great sound when you get-on-it ! Would I go back to stock...hell no. Then I added the BANKS Big Ass air intake system and sounds even better. At the time of install Spring of 2022 I did have to remove the heat shield for the spare tire on the stock Mojave or it would not fit, I did contact MBRP about this and she told me that she would let the engineers check into that so I do not know if that has been solved or not. To me I just removed it and tossed it .

I installed a
Borla Climber Touring Cat-Back Exhaust.
Because I no longer have a rear muffler I decided to enlarge my rear storage compartment and make a 3/8 aluminum skid plate.
This area can also be made into a 13 gal. gas tank with a transfer pump.
Here are some pictures.

I recently did a muffler delete, leaving the cats & the rear resonator in place.

I like the tone, which isn't bad for a V-6, and I have no drone even when cruising at freeway speeds at 1800 - 2000 RPM which was my one and only real concern with doing the delete.

I'm used to deleted & tuned Cummins powered Rams & Chrysler 300 6.2L Hemi with custom exhaust systems so this change was a new one for me.
